Today, the U.S. incarcerates more people than any country. These high incarceration rates cost the government money and resources, hence begging the question of how the American Prison system can be improved, and National Crime can be decreased. Tightening Gun Control laws have proven to decrease violent crime in many places, and are a logical and simple way to lower National Crime. In addition to this preventative method, restorative programs for risk youth are successful in redirecting young adults likely to head down a criminal path, Restorative and preventative methods provide a holistic approach to decreasing future crime in the U.S., in hopes of creating a safer country. National crime can be reduced through gun control measures and after jail recovery programs. Strengthening current Gun Control Laws will reduce violent crimes substantially.

A recent article in the Washington Post, which cited the work of economist Richard Florida, explains that with stricter gun laws comes a decrease in violent crimes. By holding individuals more accountable from the beginning, some states with stricter gun control laws have improved their rates of gun-assisted crimes. Also, these laws commonly cause a decrease in guns per capita, as they end up in the wrong hands less often, While some may argue that people will turn to the black market for guns if gun laws become Lighter, this is just not factually accurate. While some may head towards the black market, far more people have guns, illegal or not, Additionally, with this influx of guns, less violent crimes and convictions are made. Additionally, through laws that regulate and track the people buying guns, the police force will be able to more easily track down suspected felons.

This in turn is holding people more responsible and gives a higher risk to committing a crime. If someone is more likely to get caught, and become incarcerated, they are plainly less likely to commit the crime, Stricter gun laws allow for a decrease in crimes, and convictions, and allows for a safer public. Programs for at risk youth can help to prevent future convicts and reduce crime rates While the youth incarceration rate has decreased within the last decade, the Us. Government reports that youth who have been incarcerated are far more likely to be imprisoned as adults than other youth. These teens, consider at risk youth, represent a substantial portion of the future prison population therefore, if the prison systems and Government invested in at rick rehabilitation programs for youth crime could be significantly reduced, The Way to Happiness program is an established and successful program for at risk youth today.

The chief probation officer for this project, Danny 0‘ Black, explained “Over 90 percent of the juvenile offenders seem to internalize the values and we don‘t see them again as court referrals I have over 500 letters on file that these kids have written saying how The Way to Happiness helped them straighten their lives out.” While crime in the US. may be on a decline recently, measures can be taken to decrease crime and incarceration rates. Through preventative practices, such as gun control laws, a safer society can be formed Tightening gun control laws substantially drops violent crimes Additionally, restorative program for at risk youth have the ability to decrease incarceration rates and put young adults on the right path. Through preventative and restorative practices, American crime can be reduced, creating a safer country.
