Abortion remains a heavily controversial topic. A recent headline read “You Can’t Give a Lethal Injection to Murderers in New York, But You Can Give One to an Unborn Baby.” Have you really thought about what abortion is and what it means to have one? Mr. Ronald Reagan stated, “I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” While there are several people on both sides of the argument, the simple fact is it remains a termination of a human life. A termination of life which carries with it risk, complications, and psychological influence on the recipient.

With the number of abortions on the rise, roughly one million abortions occur every year in the United States according to Sajadi-Ernazarova and Martinez (2018). Abortion is defined by Merriam-Webster as “1 : the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus: such as a: spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation, b: induced expulsion of a human fetus, c: expulsion of a fetus by a domestic animal often due to infection at any time before completion of pregnancy.”

Dr. Anthony Levatino is an obstetrician gynecologist (OB GYN) who has himself performed over 1,200 abortions. In a detailed video, Dr. Levatino describes the barbaric procedure of an abortion, called a dilation and evacuation or D & E, is done. This procedure itself is usually preformed between 13- and 24-weeks gestation. A baby develops a heartbeat in weeks 3 to 4. A full-term baby is between 37- and 42-weeks gestation. The cervix is dilated, and the amniotic fluid is suctioned out. At 20 weeks gestation the baby, from head to buttock, is about the length of an average size human hand.

A specialized instrument, called a sopher clamp, is inserted and clamped onto an arm or leg. At this point, the abortionist will start to pull very hard until the limb is ripped completed off the baby and pulled out. This is repeated over and over until the head is the only thing left. The abortionist will then crush the skull and pull it out in pieces. Once this is done and the abortionist believes the entire remains have been removed, they will place the pieces back in order as if to reconstruct the now lifeless, dead baby, in efforts to confirm that the entire baby has been removed. In New York this procedure can be performed all the way up to birth.

Termination of Life

“Let’s not pretend that abortion isn’t about the mass slaughter of innocents” -Michael Aston. The abortion procedure is nothing more than murdering a baby. The federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 was enacted in order to protect unborn babies against violence. In this law, the unborn child is a baby “at any stage of development”. The United States government considers unborn babies as human beings being under the species of homo sapiens. The government enacted this act in order to “protect unborn children from assault and murder”. Under federal law one who intentionally kills or attempts to kill an unborn baby should be punished.

The Bible says in Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” In Jeremiah 1:5 (a) we find that “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;”. Here we find that not only did God created us, but He also knew us. Exodus 20:13 will tell us “Thou shalt not kill.” Children are a heritage of the Lord and should not be viewed as a burden or inconvenience. At this point, value is now given to life and that point is in the womb at any developmental stage. There is a substantial argument as to when life begins but as early as week 4, the baby develops a heartbeat.

Risks

As with any procedure or surgery, they all have one thing in common. They all carry risk and can have medical complications such as heavy bleeding, infection, moderate to severe pain, nausea, vomiting, uterine perforation, injuries to adjacent structures such as bowels or bladder. The list goes on. There is a moderate risk involved and nearly 40% of woman have an abortion related complication that requires an emergency department visit (Sajadi-Ernazarova and Martinez 2018). The later gestational age when the abortion is preformed, the higher the chance for there to be a more critical causing medical conditions such as sepsis and even death.

Psychological Impact

While the emotional effects of abortion are often debated, abortion carries psychological consequences. Studies show that women who choose abortion are more likely to suffer from mental health problems. These problems ranged from anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, to guilt, shame, anger, suicidal ideation, loss of self-esteem, loneliness, sleep problems, relationship problems, and even suicide. During an undercover interview, the staff at an abortion clinic downplayed these effects when the interviewer asked. In fact, the staff member was telling the undercover interviewer that is was safer to have an abortion than to carry the baby to term and deliver.

Conclusion

Ann B. Ross once said, “I certainly supported a woman’s right to choose, but to my mind the time to choose was before, not after the fact”. Abortion is simply a lawful way to terminate the precious life of a baby. Sadly, it is just a legal murder. Some what you to believe the baby feels nothing and its safe. Some might argue that the baby, or fetus, is not yet life however it has heartbeat. Abortion has serious physical risk, complication rates, and psychological stress. At the end of the day, just because one does not believe something to be true, does not make it any less true. Will you continue to take the hogwash shoveled out as truth?
