Lack of Integrity

According to Hearty (2020), It is every social worker’s responsibility to uphold integrity while handling all the clients. In our case scenario, the social worker violated the aspect of integrity by taking advantage of her personal relationship with her friend. He provided confidential information about a client to the friend who needed affirmation about the status of another client of the social work practice agency.

The NASW revised its law on integrity on 2017. A historic and redefining feature of social work is the profession’s focus on individual well-being in a social context and the well-being of the society (Hearty, 2020). This law was highly breached since she did not only use her personal relations to influence her work decision but also compromised the reputation of the agency. The breach is an even higher offence since the agency at large could be sued and face penalties due to breaking of the law on the act of integrity in the place of work.

Misuse of Technology

Technology use through devices such as computers is of very grave importance in the work area. Computers in social work agencies are used to store very important and highly confidential Information such as diagnosis, work status of people, location and even medical records may be in the system. Sharing this information as the social worker did is a breach of the NASW Law. (ICTs) are becoming an essential to social work practice by providing increased treatment possibilities and reducing barriers to service (Gong et al., 2019). The social worker using her ability to log in to the system sharing the files with a non-member of the institution was highly unacceptable because the social worker has had experience on the work for many years hence knew what she was doing and took advantage of that factor.

A plan derision was therefore considered paramount in ordered to ensure no repetitive action of such crucial repercussions ever occurred (Gong et al., 2019). The plan should cover the safety and security of the client, social worker and agency. In order to ascertain the client safety, measures were to be put in place. The first being setting of passwords. The system should be revised in such a way to acquire information about a certain client both the social worker and the client should provide clearance by logging in their passwords simultaneously (Horishna & Slozanska, 2017). This ensures that the client is in knowledge of information being retrieved and gives his or her consent.

Social worker safety measures was also considered in the plan. The plan was designed in that the social worker was given ability to only share the information through the related databases in the agency. If information was to be transferred to an external source a decrypted password would be needed and permission from the supervisor. This will help the supervisee in future when faced with a dilemma as the one discussed where she has to make a decision between friendship and profession (Gong et al., 2019).

The agency as a whole institution was also added in the plan. The agency was assured of its safety whereby only the supervisors could approve of the transfer of confidential information outside the database system to another party aside from the client. In addition, a signed consent from the client would be needed and this would take a span of two weeks to be approved. This will hinder future breaching of laws since the process is considered lengthy and very tiresome.

Authoritarian behaviors such as immediate suspension of the supervisee was demanded. The suspension was necessitated because even on being asked she did not seem apologetic. The suspension will however serve as a disciplinary way to ensure of no future occurrence. Transformational leadership skills such as (GTL) goes a long way to enable improvement in the social work practices (Pattison, 2018). This happens in that the sub-ordinates give their views about the leadership of a certain administrator.

The (GTL) helps since when the people under you are given an opportunity of expression then the leadership scale is strengthened and everyone does an effective job without undermining anyone. We conclude that the GTL has a number of potential uses as an assessment and as a selection tool and in leadership research (Pattison, 2018).

Diversity issues such as languages, cultures and even racial distinctions should also be addressed in certain ways such as training of the supervisee in how to deal with various clients. Also ensuring that the supervisee are not biased to any tribe or race or culture is also very important. Diversity ensures that all the clients of the agency are treated with equity and evades future occurrence of biasness that leads to leaking of classified information from an institution (Firsov, Lebedeva & Chernikova, 2018). Employment of individuals from various backgrounds enable mingling and thus they are able to reduce the biasness in a certain work area.

The plan development should also involve the supervisee when the issue is addressed and ways are brought in on how to prevent future occurrences. The supervisee since most of the time she or he is in charge of the clients directly is in a better position to know what the plan intends to cover and be effective (Krahn, 2020). The supervisee may also be a valuable resource in making sure no future occurrence exist by identifying the loopholes in the current system and coming up with ways to cover up those ends to ensure the plan takes effect for a very long time to come. Laws would also be laid down on the institution on what action to be taken and a vote to be cast to ensure that all that was stated is agreed upon by everyone to ensure no unjust disciplinary action against the lawbreaker.
