Respect is a fundamental virtue in the world. Respect for each other will avert any misunderstandings between individuals or communities. In the family, there are various reasons as to why children should strive to respect their parents. The Bible commands that children should value and respect their parents every day. In fact, it is the only commandment with a promise, hence, critical honor parents.
This commandment depicts that parents are co-creators with God; therefore, respecting parents is respecting God, the ultimate maker. Importantly, honoring parents is an expression of gratefulness to those who bring life into the world. There is the need to respect the heritage and knowledge of the parents, which is passed on from one generation to another. Parents are willing to forgo almost everything to make sure that their children live a life that is admirable and beneficial. This is enough for people to realize that there is the need to respect parents, even when disciplined.
Importantly, parents always pray for a treasured life for their children and they care enough to ensure that they have a safe future. Parents have been always willing to take responsibility of their children’s misdemeanor; hence, children should respect their parents. They take the trouble of monitoring their children. Parents spend sleepless nights thinking of their children’s welfare during their entire life, even when they have grown into adults and have children of their own. Later in life, when a child deals with family issues, parents are there to provide support and comfort.
When we were young and helpless, parents have always been protective, comforting and caring, besides of course, loving unconditionally. Parents are at all times ready to forgive our misconduct. There is no basis for children to disrespect their parents because respecting them is the only way of showing gratitude. Notably, parents are the valid reasons of existence, and we should be courteous, provide for their need and help, as well as living by their expectation on moral grounds.
