Hardships can be presented in many forms in our society, Whether we know it or not, people go through hardships everyday Whether it may be financial hardships, or family hardships, or any other relevant hardships that may be a burden on life. But in either scenario they force you to adapt to the situation by pushing yourself and overcoming the adversity presented And overcoming these obstacles helps build character. Adversity may be painful at the moment, but pain is temporary “Pain will eventually subside, and something else will take its place” Ray Lewis. Development in character results from change. And change happens either intentionally, or unintentionally But when change happens unintentionally is when the most noticeable shift in character occurs.
When a dramatic shift in the environment happens, you aren‘t changing because you want to, but because it’s necessary for your survival, The Great Depression is a great example for this because this was a time of financial crisis. People were struggling to be financially stable. Thus they had to adapt to the environment given to them, which the people of America had no power over. This adaptation happened through adopting new methods of staying financially stable. This era created the highest amount of millionaires to be recorded in American history. This shows that “Adversity” plays a good role in motivation. And without the hardships the Great Depression had presented, people wouldn’t have thought about the tactics they did to become the millionaires they are today.
In fact most people that grew up in this era subconsciously adopted conservative lifestyles, Adversity Ties into all aspects in life, personally I have faced hardships that resulted in an increased level of motivation that plays into the sports 1 play, and the decisions I make. For example this was my first year trying hurdles on the track, I ran the 110-meter hurdles for every track meet throughout the whole season. Out of the 12 races 1 ran, I fell on at least 5 of my races. This to many might be embarrassing enough to want to quit doing httrdles. But this hardship played a major role in my efforts to excel for next season. Falling on the hurdles and not being able to perform at my maximum potential, makes me work harder every time I step on the track Hardships can act as a wake up call to make improvement. Now I have set my goals to be in the top 3 in state for the hurdles. Some of the most successful people in the world, became the people they are today because of certain hardships they went through. For example Farrah gray that grew up in inner city Chicago, wasn‘t living in the comfortable living conditions.
This brought out the true talent of this young man, who began selling rocks around his neighborhood at the age of 6. He eventually moved on to home made body lotions and prepaid phone cards, He then became a media figure for doing these activities at such a young age. He eventually made his first million by the time he was 14 years of age He told AOL Jobs that he credits the poverty of his childhood as the great motivating factor. This demonstrates how the most impacting hardships often bring out the best of a person, because it really makes you think out side of the box. The most difficult Hardships are the ones that force people to step out of their comfort zone, and innovate new ideas. Many times children that grow up in prosperous environments, and have everything given to them without hard work, tend to not do well in the real world. This will only change if they learn the discipline of hard work, and independence. If you are placed in an unfortunate situation, its not so that you can whine and hope for a better outcome. But so that you have a reason to work hard and succeed, because is you don’t you wont live a happy life, More over adversity plays a crucial role in strong character development.
