For this assignment I am choosing plastic invention as an event which have changed human history course tremendously. I believe there are lot of pros and cons for this invention. The biggest benefit was disposable and easy/friendly use material. But simultaneously it is too dangerous for our environment. In following article, I would like to explain what was the purpose of this invention and what are the benefits and disadvantages of this invention. I would also like to put my opinions about how I would like to create a change/ resolve this environmental issue occurred by plastic.
Majorly the plastic is made up from fossil fuels and petroleum. Also humans have learned how to create the plastic from synthetic polymer. The synthetic polymer plastic was made from two chemicals such as phenol and formaldehyde. Leo Hendrik Baekeland have made this material so that people can reuse the same material. Because of the synthetic polymer plastic become tough, durable and moldable. The concept was to create a material which can be re-used again and again for different purposes.
Let us take an example, Plastic have changed the living standards of human. World war 2 has increased the need of plastic in the united states and resulted in the growth of plastic industry. During world war 2, production of the plastic has tremendously increased. Nylon, which is a substitute of plastic, was used at the time of the word war 2 by making the head protector, padded linings of helmets and ropes after the world was Plastic have become the important part of human life. Plastic has taken the place of traditional materials and became the most commonly used material.

Plastic has some advantages such as, plastic is a water resistance and it is durable, it has low cost, the manufacturing of plastic is easy and cheaper it requires minimum energy to its production and transportation as it is light in weight. it can be crushed and recycled to make new materials. Due to its ease of use and low in cost, metal pipes are replaced by plastic pipes. Because of all these advantageous the use of plastic become permanent. One major disadvantage of this invention is the environmental issue.
Due to its increased use in day to day life plastic has made a lot of effect on environment. Plastic lasts for years, it takes thousands of years to decompose. If the plastic is not disposed properly it is dangerous to wildlife animals and human being. Plastic clog the waterways and float on the water. Most of the plastic is dumped in the environment and filled in the landfills. People became aware and have observed the environmental effect and all the countries become alert and taking required steps to avoid using plastic.
By looking the future hazard of using excessive plastic In a India, particularly a Maharashtra state, government has banned the use of plastic. And recently, Indian government is looking forward to implementing the ban of plastic all over the country. New kind of strategies can be applied to prevent the use of plastic such as, People should use cotton or paper bags instead of using plastic bags. Using of alternating material for plastic is the best way to stay world pollution free and sustainable. Some changes are good some changes are bad, but change is important for growth and development. Invention of plastic has changed the course of human history, now it’s time to change the history again by changing the habits and not using plastic and make this world better place for living.
