Everyone is a procrastinator, so do I. People may put things off just for the simple fact that they have too much to do on their daily life and decide to put things off for a later time. We should start avoiding procrastination by changing our own attitude, finding the reason of own procrastination and setting our priorities. By doing this, we can do a lot without even knowing it.
First and foremost, changing the attitude. When we think there is nothing wrong in leaving job until the last minute, the habit of procrastination develops. It may be because we’re lacking the motivation required to complete a task. To overcome this issue, we need to change our attitude, and the first thing we should do is set a limit for completing a task. For instance, by developing a habit of setting deadlines and finishing the task within the specified time. We should always bear in mind that the deadline we select should be a lot earlier than the original deadline for completing and submitting that task. To take new deadlines as if they were the real ones, a change in attitude is required. We should also punish ourselves if we don’t follow the schedule to make it more effective.
Next, finding the reason of your procrastination. As a student, what we don’t realize is that we procrastinate for a reason. In other words, there will always be something keeping us from completing our assignment. Watching our favourite TV’s show or drama might be one of the examples why we procrastinate and avoid working on a project. Whatever that cause, we have to find whatever the cause is as this will make it easier to fix our attitude accordingly.
Furthermore, set your priorities. If you don’t learn to set your priorities, we won’t be able to break the cycle of procrastination. For example, we could simply sneak in the library and work on our assignment instead of hanging out with friends. Similarly, instead of watching TV at home, we could just go to the room and study. Remember, there will always be many better things than studying or writing your essay, but we will better off using those pleasurable activities as reward for completely our assignment.
In a nutshell, an effective student knows what they want now and they want most. Do not let what we want now hinder us from getting what we want most. Remember that the most important step to take is by acknowledging the fact WE’RE PROCRASTINATING. Identify the main reasons behind this behaviour and pick some of the tips above, on how to overcome procrastination when studying.
