As the troops got ready to go into battle, Queen Elizabeth decided to motivate them though an astounding speech. She goes on to voice how she will join the fight and not stand idle watching it. She wants to be a leader to the men, and defeat the opposing army. “I am come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the midst of heat and battle, to live and to die amongst you all…” Queen Elizabeth shows dedication to her people by not letting them go into the war alone, she lets her warriors know that she will go to great lengths to not let them parish and risk losing the battle. She uses amplification to express detail by vividly describing and giving more meaning to the battle. She motivates to soldiers using a persuasive speech in which she uses amplification to express vivid detail.

Queen Elizabeth expresses hatred for the enemy for the troops to abide by. She gives an example to them to fuel their rage for the enemy. “Foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe should dare invade my realm…” In this part of the speech, she shows how much they despise the invading troops and that they will not stand for it. Queen Elizabeth uses conflict in this sentence because she is implying the Spanish Armada as the antagonist and them as the protagonists. She motivates them using a persuasive speech in which she uses conflict to rally the troops.

Queen Elizabeth wants to defend against the invasion with the utmost power, she emphasizes what she is risking and what she will do to come out of this fight victorious. “to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honor, and my blood…” In this, she explains all the things she lays on the lie to defend and fight for her country. She demonstrates courage when she lives up to to this promise. She uses repetition when she continuously uses “my” by reminding all the troops all the things she in laying on the line and risking. She motivates them using a persuasive speech in which she uses repetition to show the men all the things she’s risking for a great reward.

In conclusion, this speech motivates the soldiers in many ways. Throughout the speech, she uses many rhetorical and literary devices to prove her point. Queen Elizabeth uses a persuasive tone to motivate her soldiers, which shows that she is able to convince her men to fight like boxer in the ring.
