Nelson Mandela was a South African politician and activist, who would later become the first black president of South Africa. Mandela efforts were to bring rights equal quantity to the lower class. His actions would lead him to almost three decades in prison.
Mandela was born on July 18, 1918; he was born into a royal family of the Xhosa- speaking tribe in the South African village of Mvezo, his father was the chief. Mandela mother was the third of his father wives; at nine years, old Mandela would be adopted by Jongintaba Dalindyepo who a high-ranking Thembu was who wanted him a role in leadership.
Mandela was the first in his family to have a formal education, he was given primary studies at a missionary school. Later, Mandela would attend Clarkebury Boarding Institute and Healdown where he learned to box and academics. He would later get his bachelor’s degree and studied law at the University, where he began to be involved in the movement against racial discrimination.

Some of Mandela’s accomplishments where in 1952 he and Oliver Tambo co-founded the first Black Legal Partnership in South Africa. Which is a law firm, where they had taken many cases and became popular. Another accomplishment Mandela have achieved was when after he was released from prison, he became the first Black president of South Africa, where he served from 1994 to 1999. A third accomplishment he had done while he was president was that he able serve in the Non-Aliniged movement. Where he helped to construct more houses, help children to get on the educated system, as well give health care to children and pregnant women.
Mandela accomplishments would leave a great impact throughout America; references of his would be in pop culture, activists, and in politics. One of this would be in the later 1970’s when college students would call up their colleges to make a divest investment that was going on in South Africa. They would also do sit-ins as well protest which got the attention of thousands and then getting arrest without charge because of the reason. Many movie adoptions have been made do to his accomplishments he did for the people in South Africa which includes the movie Mandela: A walk to Freedom.
Nelson Mandela would be always known for all the things he did through his lifetime. To a boxer to an activist to getting put in prison for 27 years, then becoming the President of South Africa. He died on December 5, 2013 where live up to 95 years old.
