Moral Character is the evaluation of an individual’s qualities that include integrity, loyalty, humility, honesty, and good behavior habits. Character is what one does in the dark when no one is looking. It is important to have good qualities, but Per Weiss, “some mitigating circumstances can excuse or lessen a person’s moral responsibility in a situation. They can include lack of serious harm or knowledge of wrongdoing” (Weiss, 2014 p. 56). The ideal traits of a leader would be integrity, transparency, fairness, and to be trustworthy. I am not a follower, I am a leader, though if I intend to follow someone, I want them to lead me in the right direction where Id be able to be the leader I already am.

What makes a good leader innovative? They are positive role models; they lead by example. A leader will not ask somebody what to do, if they have not accomplished it themselves already. In order to grow, a leader must be always be transparent and humble even in difficult situations. They must live for others, as stated by, James Wilson, signer of the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court Justice, “Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine”. Leaders who live for others cultivate empathy and compassion. (Hyun Jin Preston Moon, 2017)

I’ve had leaders with moral character in the past that have been compassionate without violating policy and role models in leading by example. I had a boss who would never asks her employees to do something that she had not done herself in the past or was willing to do then and there. She was a great leader who had the public trust and lived by The Golden Rule, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Weiss, 2014 p. 85) Those qualities and traits make a leader not only morally ethical but , per James “ these are simple things that make a person who they are today (Career Trend, 2019). Also, having a great leader is one who can take fault for their actions instead of finding the fault in others.

Therefore, while most people believe that leaders are born, it is in my opinion that most leaders can be developed by strengthening the connection between employer and employee, become aware of their weakness and strength, and study and analyze successful leaders. Some leaders are influenced by life decisions, their upbringing, social norm, and life experiences. It is morally ethical leaders who make a difference not only in the workplace, but also in the community. Give your best daily, work hard, stay true to your values, and maybe one day you can become a powerful leader.
