Allegory of the cave is a book which is written by the Greek philosopher Plato in his work republic to compare effect of education and human nature. Allegory of the cave is about the community we living in right now, the people we grown up with, the nature we raised in, the friends we made, and we can say religions or worship of particular god or a thing. What I get from this topic is usually we believe in what other says, some time we do some time we do not. We all have fear about what other will say if I do this or that. My religious is Hindu, which means I stickily have to stuck to my religious all time and even my grandparents, they want me to do whatever they say until I get married to some girl who belongs from respected and good family. Cave is a society where people keep following each other’s and being followed by other. Back to the topic, Plato has Socrates describe a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall from objects passing in front of a fire behind them, and give names to these shadows. The shadows are the prisoners’ reality. In conclusion, Plato ignored the theory of the forms of people tied with chains in the cave, who were unable to turn their heads. They all can see that there is a wall of cave. A fire burns behind them. There is a parapet between fire and inmates, with which puppets can run.

The article, ‘Take This Fish and Look at It,’ by Samuel Scudder, is about young man studying to be a scientist. Initially, the student was asked to tell the professor what he saw about the fish. After a few minutes, the professor came back to the room. He asked what the student saw at the beginning. The student responded to her structure and body parts. Professor said, try to look deeply. Each time the student has seen the professor, he will tell all the new things he has told him and every time the professor will say ‘this is good but there is something else.’ Finally, the student got confused and what else to look for this dead fish they decided to pull it on paper sheets. On this, the professor was happy. He said, ‘Art is one of your best pairs.’ After this, the professor took the fish away from him and actually studied it without observing the object. After a few days, he came up with comments when he was not actually a fish in front of him. Professor proved that day a point for them. What I have collected from the article is that after observing the objects, observation should be done. The thought process is clearly included and transmitted with observation and recording. After all, your eyes can not think, but they can give you the necessary information needed to generate thoughts about what you see.

David Foster Wallace’s “This is Water” was a truly inspirational piece of writing talking about how a person can bring change to not only themselves, but to the community around them by simply choosing what to think. Wallace talks about the average adult day, in his article, ‘This is water.’ He elaborates on the repetition and same old boring behaviors live brings across.  By being stress-free from work, we often think that we are focused. In other words, the brain switches its ‘natural default setting’. By ‘Choosing What to Think About’, we can switch gears and change mood. Just as important as the others around us. As a human, we think that our own ideas are superior to the others, so we do not like to listen, and instead we continue to talk. This makes us a prisoner of the brain, one simple fact is that we cannot even escape from our mind. Wallace says, ‘Blind conviction, and the closest ideology that is in captivity, so the total prisoner does not know that he’s locked up’. Learning how to think is a difficult task. It is not difficult, it is simply difficult. If we can teach ourselves how to think, then we will be a little less important and be more careful about the activities around us. We stop thinking that we have a major importance, that everything moves around us and we are ‘the perfect center of the universe’, then we can focus on the beauty of the surrounding people and appreciate it.
