Homework is a very important part of education, because it gives children the opportunity to remember crucial information and knowledge given in the classroom. However, I will discuss some of the arguments for and against doing homework.
I will start by considering two arguments in favor of doing homework. Firstly, homework should be there to make children repeat the things they learn at school. Doing that improves their learning, but only to the extent that does not start stressing children out. If there’s too much homework, children will feel bored. So homework should not exceed more than 30 minutes in order to spend enough time with their parents and do some interesting activities in their free time.
Secondly, children don’t have enough time to complete their tasks in class. Because they are not focusing on what they should be doing. Therefore, doing homework is perfectly acceptable for those who are not able to focus in the class. Even better, sometimes it is easier to learn and concentrate when children don’t have their classmates around. Most classmates always distract themselves from getting new ideas, so it is better to do homework at home. Moreover, homework can give parents a chance to see what’s going on at school and learn about their children’s academic strengths and weaknesses.
I will now move on to the arguments against doing homework. First of all, it can lead to boredom with school work, especially if it takes too much time to be done. Furthermore, parents can get too involved in homework which enables them to complain. In addition to, children will feel nervous because of the great pressure of spending 2 or 3 hours doing their homework. So doing a lot of homework will reduce children’s interest, fun and hobbies. Secondly, children’s house may be too small and always busy with parents’ friends, which leads them to lose concentration and completion their school tasks.
In conclusion, too little homework does no good and too much homework does more harm than good. Therefore, children should be given less homework in order to be able to achieve their own interest and give them happy childhood.
