Michael Vick was involved in dog fighting because is the one who bet a big dollar. And they have the money to bet big and for pleasure. They generate bets of up to $ 30,000. Three types of fighting seem to exist: those of street, the so-called fights of leisures and the professional fights. The latter can then generate sums up to half a million dollars.
Dog fighting is a phenomenon organized by underground crime that deserves much more legal than political scrutiny. This sport is now banned in the United States. Despite this absolute ban, it has reached epidemic proportions in all urban communities and continues to flourish in many rural areas. The American collective consciousness has long been ruled out by the indisputable brutality of dog fighting culture, and as a result, the law has been lax in assessing the extent and gravity of the phenomenon. Communities that have been morally, socially and culturally marked by the spread of dog fighting have paid dearly for the community’s apathy, legally.
The dog fighting is illegal in the U.S because the organizers force the animals to fight to death and to kill them, in a systematic and inhuman way when they were too badly injured. In the addition fighting, the dogs allegedly fought until death, or almost. Loser dogs were sometimes killed by electrocution, drowning, hanging or bullets. That’s why the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has set up a canine DNA bank to confuse with conviction the organizers of dog fighting.
Since the NFL issued this statement: “Dog fighting is cruel, degrading and illegal, and we support an in-depth investigation into any allegations of this type of activity. Any NFL employees involved in this type of activity will be subject to fast and important discipline as part of his personal conduct policy”. I think Michael Vick is returning to the NFL after serving 23 months in federal prison at Leavenworth for running a dog fighting ring; will teach a lesson to those NFL players that still practice or organized the fight.
