GMO stands for genetically modified engineering. In a laboratory when a living organism’s genetic material is artificially manipulated through genetic engineering, it is called GMO. From animals to plants and microorganisms, a wide variety of organisms have been genetically modified till now. Traits of GMO include disease resistant, improved nutrition, increased storage, medicinal uses, etc.

An example of GMO is corn. The video “Different look of GMO” tell us that corn that we know today would not exist if it were not for the humans that cultivated and developed it. According to that video corn comes from teosenti which was barely edible, small, skinny, had few kernels, tasted bad and people had to hit it with a hard object many times to peel it. With the help of GMO the corn we have today can be easily peeled, larger and contains four times more sugar.

The documentary “Seeds of Death: Unveiling The Lies of GMO’s” talks about various health dangers of humans, animals and environment caused by GMO and presents Professors, environmental activists, politicians, physicians, attorneys, few scientists and farmer who tells about many things related to GMO. The documentary also talks about harmful, illegal actions being carrying out by people, corporations especially Monsanto and how the world is being cheated on in case of GMO. The documentary states that GMO is not safe, needs more research, they are still not ready for the world. It is said that humans can have health problems like infertility, organs and immune system failure, holes in GI tract by having GMO food.

GM food would change animal genetics, human genetics which may also change future generation’s genetics. Tests on rats were done and there were inside out negative side effects. Crop fields next to or downwind from a genetically engineered crop field can get contaminated. Monsanto is the center of attention in this documentary though there are many other companies which produce GM foods and pesticides. Monsanto’s bad past is being related with GMO and also the fact that it is a chemical company which only cares about making money. There is corruption in FDA and Government and so GMO gets approved no matter what.
