Over the past centuries, people have gone through events in their life that put them in state of which leaves them feeling like, the world has fallen on them. Having unhappy moments in your life is a part of what makes your life normal, but when emotions such as misery and loneliness take a hold over your life for a longer period of time, is what we call being in the state of depression. Depression, also called a major depressive disorder, is a life-threatening and common medical illness that harmfully has an impact on the way you think, how you behave, and even how you feel.

With this type of disorder, it makes it difficult for individuals to concentrate and enjoy the life they should be having; becoming overwhelmed with simply surviving through the day. In addition, depression can make you lose interest in activities you used to find comfort doing and being contented doing it. Some symptoms that are present in depression are: having sad feeling or having a disheartened mood, alterations in appetite/weight loss or gain that’s not in dieting, difficulty sleeping or oversleeping frequently, energy loss or increased exhaustion, feeling like you don’t have a sense of value or guiltiness, having trouble thinking, focusing or making decisions, and having death or suicide considerations.

Women encounter depression a lot more than men and that’s due to the fact that women can go through depression from hormonal factors while pregnant and after giving birth. With men, they tend to express their depression through anger, hostility, and even acting carelessly. Some other types of depressions are peripartum depression, seasonal depression, persistent depressive disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, and bipolar disorder.

However, regardless of how hopeless you may feel, there are treatments you can take that can make your health be in a proper recovery state. When being educated on what leads to your depression, and the various symptoms that come with it, you can develop methods of conquering the disorder.

Depression is very significant in today’s society due to the fact that it’s a world-wide problem that has affected the lives of many individuals. In the 21st century, many cases of people going through depression has increased by nearly a fifth. The baby boomers born in the mid 1940s are much more prone to have depression. Some ways that depression can lead to a life-threatening situation are when an individual decides he/she does not want to exist on earth anymore and take their life away through committing suicide.

The mentality of not seeing hope in life can cause people to reach the fateful conclusion to culminate their sadness. Studies have shown through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), that suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States that affects all ages and more than 40, 000 people die since 2016 with 1 deaths per 12 minutes (CDC 2018). Depression was definitely most present for nearly half of all the suicides that took place within those years.

People who experience depression are the ones that need the social support to get through the process. No one ever said it was going to be an easy journey to overcome it within a day but with the help of doctors, family, and friends the process becomes less stressful and rewarding in the end. The people who care about depression are the ones who may have family and/or friends that are going depression and don’t want to see them in that state.

When you’re depressed, you can feel that there’s no bright side to anything; however, there are different strategies you can use to make you feel better such as making encouraging decisions for yourself. Everything you do to heal takes time but it can be done. Other ways to cope with depression are to simply communicate with others who may have experienced what you’re going through and how they can help with yours.

The power of communication can be so effective and can benefit you in so many ways you can’t imagine. You have to try to stay active through exercise in which can help with the depression symptoms you have. The foods you eat can also be a great way to help out; taking a good diet by decreasing the foods you consume can affect your disposition such as carbs, alcohol, sugar, and even trans fats. A great interaction with the environment again is a significant start in making you feel better, and the earlier you start the more advantages you have of recovering quicker.

In conclusion, depression is a mental health disorder that has taken a toll on many lives; characterizing by a relentless discouraged mood or shortfall of interest in activities in which cause a major impairment in daily life. However, there are many treatments and therapies that can help aid with the disorder to help you be the best you can be. The worst thing an individual can ever do is not do anything to help themselves and allow such a disorder to control their lives. Always find a way to talk to someone about what you’re going through; though; it never comes easy but releasing what’s been occurring on the inside can only help you get to other side of it.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to have the opportunity to make that difference and end this stigma. Nevertheless, even though depression is a real illness, there will always be a helping hand that can help you every step of the way and with the appropriate treatment and diagnosis most people that battle with depression are more than likely to be victorious over it.
