By far esternization’s biggest effect on our culture is on language. Our mother tongue Urdu is substituted by English used as a more frequent language in conversation. Most of the people are not proud to speak our own language now and this is mostly seen in the middle and upper class. Most Pakistanis are moving away from their mother language and adopting English. By adopting English we are not just adopting their language but also their culture, values, customs and traditions and in the process are forgetting our own culture. Even our education is now focusing too much on English at all levels.
Media
The media plays an important role in influening western culture in Pakistan. Young generation is attracting towards their values and culture by watching their movies and shows, they have been showing adult content openly which our government has no intrest in stopping them, their dance shows are infuleincing young kids, we are adapting it this was never part of our culture, Our industry started producing dance and singing competitions instead of putting a ban to it they are encouraging shows like this which is absolutely shameful. Foreign media has ruined our culture and mind sets of young generation. They took our culture away from us, our industry produced some quality shows in the past which were appreciated by people, Shows like “shah e rezaat” put a postive effect on young generation. Our industry stopped producing shows like before because now days our youth is attracted towards western media and they like shows and movies like the west which is the ends towards our culture
Family
In Pakistani culture family is the most important part of your life, your culture values and norms represents your family. Today’s generation pays no importance to family or gatherings, as im west when you turn 18 you leave your family and start your own life which in other words they call independence and freedom , Young generation especially boys has started to adopt this western culture as soon as they turn 18 they want their own house and try to cut themselves from their family, this is not our culture this never was the western culture has rotten the young minds which will obviously result in destruction of their futures.
Food
Our food represents our culture without any doubt Pakistani food hold a significance throughout the world, people of Pakistan who are living abroad prefer pakistni food over the western food, but today in Pakistan there are number of foodchains opened throught the country offering western food and with no doubt people are actually enjoying their meals left their culture and food behind running after western food, even our food lost it’s value infront of food of the west.
Traditions and Events
West has intruded in our culture we have totally forgoten our culture and values. We give importance to their culture more then our own. Basant was one of the most important tradion in Pakistan, it was though banned by the government after few incidents that occur around the country, but it’s saddening that government never really bothered to ban the western tradions like Valentine’s Day which was unethical and far from distant from our norms and culture especially our religious values. Halloween is encouraged all around the country, Our educational institues celebrates halloween like their own event which is resulting in our generation forgetting our own culture values and traditions
Our marriages were already infulenced by indian culture but now they are adopting western culture where doing Bridal shower before marriage has become an important tradition which has nothing to do with our culture and values.
Clothing
It is safe to say that western culture has ruined our culture in many ways not only our food and language it has taken over our clothing and living life styles too, western clothes have no doubt ruined our fashion industry. There are sure more western brands running than eastern brands in Pakistan. They have put our duppata and shalwar kameez culture to an end, women enjoy wearing jeans top and tank tops, boys only wear shalwar kurta occasionally, we have forgotten our culture completely. Even the actor and actresses in dramas and movies wear western clothes, they have no idea if they are representing pakistani culture throughout the world through their dramas and movies, they ruined the pakistani culture and are potraying wrong image of pakistan on the outside world
Norms and Values
Its fearing how normalise the gatherings of young boys and girls have become, the parties and clubs have been so normalised. Usage of drugs and alcohol is not a very big of a deal in Pakistan, young generation is using drugs on everyday use without even concerning it’s side effetcs it all becasue of western culture, Alcohol has been started selling in restaurants and shops, not only we forgot our culture we also forgot our islamic teachings, people nowdays following islam and it’s values are considred to be backwards and are made fun of practicing islam, has become an unethical thing young generation is rotted by western culture and there’s a need to put stop to it
It’s not only our government’s job to fix the country we as a part of Pakistan it’s our duty to bring back our culture, norms, values and traditions back to the country, represnt our country in a better way leave the negative effects of outer world’s culture adopt our own values, it’s our civic duty to be a better Pakistani and embrace our culture
