The Tao Te Ching is the base of Taoism, written by Lao Tzu, it also slightly influenced Confucianism and Buddhism. The Tao Te Chang basically teaches people to flow with the universe and to live by your heart. Lao believes in following the natural flow, detaching yourself from desire. That doesn’t mean you can’t have anything, all you must do is stay detached from the desire and follow natural law of life you adhere to “The Way” and not “Your Way”. you let it come in time and do not rush the outcome.
Which ties into “Letting go” a recurring theme in the book. You still care and have wished, but you do not rush into the action before you are certain about the consequences of those actions. I believe it means that the world functions according to the law of the universe and it favors no one. You will have to give up control, in order to be in control and learn to accept it. If we do not realize this, then there will be at constant war between what you want and what happens in reality.
Analects is a collection of ideas and saying by Chinese philosopher and teacher, Confucius. Following his death, students of Confucius wrote about his life and teachings they felt made an impact. earning to be human was the goal of Confucianism. According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; I believe his goal was a society of goodness, in this society, individual’s goodness will spread. In order to reach this goal, Confucius feels that one must educate themselves and act as a teacher towards others.
Confucius believed that a leader who could install goodness of education among their follower’s in time will eventually achieve a God-like status, certainly surpass good. While Lao Tzu, on the other hand, believes that the ultimate good comes from living by your heart and following the universe. “Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is a strength; mastering yourself is true power.” (chapter 33) Lao Tzu finds it more rewarding to move through life accepting the situations that are placed in front of you and growing from the experiences presented. The Tao Te Ching does not place nearly as much importance on teaching through action.
Confucius differs from this approach and promotes active learning. Teaching anyone who is interested in learning, no matter how poor they may be. ‘Not to teach a man who can be taught, is to waste a man; to teach a man who cannot be taught, is a waste of words. The wise will lose neither men nor words.’ (Book 1) In conclusion, Lao Tzu idea of the universe following its own will and Confucius stress on education hold true. However I believe we are meant to fight again the flow, humans will always hold desires and strive for them to its why we educate ourselves and what makes us human.
