Study Case 1

The results of our survey showed that the highest percentage was for being a professional (52.94%) followed by being both an entrepreneur and a professional (29.41%) then being an entrepreneur (17.65%).

On the one hand, most of the people prefer being professionals instead of entrepreneurs for many reasons. First of all, people want to feel that they are developing and growing through their career. (Rio, 2015). They want to have all the possible opportunities to make a move forward and to improve their skills and abilities. That will open new doors for them to help them prove themselves in a specific field.

Second of all, professionals want to prevent the problems entrepreneurs face. For example, entrepreneurs have the whole responsibility of the business. They don’t want to deal with all the stress and the risks entrepreneurs take, so they prefer staying in the safe side. Researches showed that entrepreneurs have a higher mental health risk. According to the Gallup Wellbeing Index, 45% of entrepreneurs report being stressed compared to 42% of “other workers. (Orendorff, 2018). Thus, profession is better from some people point of view.

Third of all, everyone wants to make money and have a luxurious life. professionals will be able to live the lifestyle they always wanted by receiving a high salary just for doing their job. The reason why they preferred achieving this goal by being professionals rather than entrepreneurs is that they don’t have to take the risk of losing money by starting up a business especially if that business did not succeed. Another reason why people prefer making money by being professionals is that they always get paid within a certain date. If the compony had a financial drop, the professionals lose will not be huge as the entrepreneur’s or the owner of the company’. Not only that but they will still take their salary even though the finance of the company is not stable yet.

To sum up, people who do not like to take risks would always prefer being professionals. Having a safe job with a paid salary is better for them than having doubts about their future income.

Study Case 2

On the other hand, there are several reasons why people want to be more than just employees. According to Toren, entrepreneurs don’t just want to change their lives, they want to change the world. (2015). Entrepreneurs are best described as creative. They try to come up with new ideas that could attract the targeted category. They always have different way of thinking and different opinion about life, thus they usually do their work to change the world they are living in to a better place.

Another reason that motivate individuals to become entrepreneurs is leaving a footprint that would immortalize their names forever. Some people believe that they are living for a purpose. They always try to benefit the world with their thoughts and work. And some keep on thinking about their life trip and the time when it will end, so they spend their life doing what will keep their names alive after their bodies leave the world. A satisfying example is Steve Jobs the business man and the co-founder of Apple Inc. (Stenstrom, 2001) . Undoubtedly, everyone nowadays know the company products and they either own one or know someone else have a product from it. Jobs has died in 2011, but his work kept his naming alive.

Moreover, entrepreneurs are passionate about what they do, so people with ambitions and aiming spirit are most likely to desire being entrepreneurs. “Disneyland is a work of love. We didn’t go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.” (Disney, n.d.) Because entrepreneurs have their passion on the top of their priorities list, they don’t have the same motives of professionals like the economic motives. Their goals encourage them to be energetic and to keep going on their journey. In addition, unlike professionals, entrepreneurs are risk-takers, they would take unguaranteed steps just to reach what they want. They chase their dreams no matter what obstacles stop in their way.

To conclude, people who choose to become an entrepreneur do not take consider it as a job only, they take it as a lifestyle as well as a way to fulfil their dreams.

Study Case 3

As we have discussed above on why some people would prefer being either a professional or an entrepreneur, some would say they would want to be both.

One of the main cons of choosing to become an entrepreneur is being a risk taker, and that is one of the reasons why people avoid starting a business, the thought of losing it all is what stops people from taking this big step. Even though entrepreneurs are known as the ones who are in complete control and who make the most income, they are the ones who can lose it all in a blink of an eye. Because of these cons some people would preferer becoming a professional as well as an entrepreneur at the same time, if the business is falling and they are losing their money they would still have their professional career to help them get back up and to help them stay financially stable.

Another main reason to choosing to become both is that a person would want to have two sources of income. Having a professional career and having your own company running at the same time only increases the chances of career growth.

Last but not the least, a person who decides to only become a professional will always face the problem of job insecurity, when you are an employee you are never guaranteed to stay in the same job for as long as you want. On the other hand, choosing to become a professional as well as an entrepreneur saves you from the worries of job insecurity. A person who chooses to become both has the opportunity to resign from their professional job at any moment without the worry about their financial state.

Choosing to become both a professional as well an entrepreneur gives a person many choices and many advantages in life. You become in control in all aspects of your life.

Conclusion

To conclude, deciding which career a person would choose is difficult. Nonetheless, choosing a career is very important due to the influence on the person’s life the choice can make. People choices should always be based on their abilities and desires. The study case and the survey we made revealed some of the reasons behind people choices. It was obvious that individuals choose what suits their lifestyle. Not only that but they also pay attention to the qualifications and skills needed in a career.
