A contemporary nursing leader is a leader that leads by example, encourage transformation through commitment and hard work to incorporate a change in an organization. A quantum leader creates an infrastructure that promotes innovation, creates conditions that secure resources and provide rewards for innovation work, (Porter- O’Grady & Malloch, 2018, p.111). The chief nursing officer (CNO) of the Texas Health Resources Central Staffing office Rosemarie Aznavorian, is a contemporary nurse leader. The central staffing office provides staffs to Texas Health Resources, a 25-hospital facility system in the Dallas Fort Worth Area.

The central staffing office provided nurses to hospitals that were understaffed for period that staffs were needed. She had strong people’s skills, had a good collaborative approach to leadership, a system thinker and was able to create a work environment for her staffs that were conducive for work and safe for the patient. She has been described by many as a hard-charging and result driven leader. This paper will discuss her leadership, analyze the traits of a quantum leader and a leadership style, discuss how current workforce generations perceived her and her leadership style, how different generations cohorts would act as follower to her and ways she has impacted my trajectory as a leader.

Evidence of Her Leadership

The CNO of the Texas Health Central staffing office has a strong business skill, a visionary about the future and very knowledgeable about current nursing trends. She is responsible for the strategic, operational, clinical and financial performance of Texas Health Resources, systemwide supplemental staffing workforce for nursing, allied and administrative. She embraces diversity, the nurses employed at central staffing are diversified, a representation of every race and ethnicity. While working with her, she knew most of her staff by heart, she was approachable, flexible and took staffs concerns into consideration when making decisions. We had quarterly meetings where staffs were able to verbalize their concerns and get feedback from her. She ensures her staffs were properly treated wherever they went. The nursing profession strives to build a culture of safety for nurses and families while dealing with issues in the workforce between nurses and the facility. Quality of work environment is key in achieving optimal workplace outcome and nurse’s retention. A healthy work environment allows staff to accomplished organizational goals and achieved work accomplishment and satisfaction, (Jackson& Daly,2010). The CNO ensured her staffs had a conducive work environment by equipping them with the skills set needed to do their job, she boarded staffs with Prophecy APS’, an apps that validated nursing assessment and onboarding solution, evaluates the clinical, situational and behavioral competencies that matter most to a clinician’s success. It was also used to monitor success for new hires to address concerns through additional education and training, thus empowering her nurses to succeed.
Analyze the quantum leadership traits
A visionary leader knows how to build an environment of dignity, respect, and trust with its followers utilizing strategies that improve both the individuals and the organization. Having a good communication with people motivates them, thereby proving your team with a purposeful and meaningful work environment, (Johnson &Justice, 2007). The CNO communicates well with her team, allow expression of thoughts and ask for nurse’s feedback when making decisions. Great leaders must be able to demonstrate competence, constancy, honesty, fairness, caring and trust, which are essential to creates bond between a leader and followers. Without such a bond, the organization has no future. A good quantum leader must be caring and able to communicate with its team. Good communication with the team keeps the team motivated. A quantum leader possesses three principles of human thoughts function; mind, thoughts, and conscience. A thought is a power that creates experiences and makes it a reality and guides the leader as a free-thinking agent; conscience is the leader capacity to be aware of the power and understand how experiences are created. With these traits, the quantum leader train others to think elegantly to foster the growth of the organization, (Johnson &Justice, 2007). The CNO demonstrated these traits, she had been described by many as unwavering when it comes to be the best, she is confident and whatever she involve herself in, is usually very successful. She is a proactive leader who does everything she can to keep her customers and her team happy.
Leadership Style
The CNO leadership style is that of transformational leader characterized by collaboration, communication, mentoring and emotional intelligence. A transformational leader possesses an idealized influence, inspirational motivation, individualized consideration and an intellectual stimulation, (Skiner, 2014). The CNO is committed to positive work performance. She is a transformational leader who focuses on the development of its followers and their needs. A transformational leader transforms people in and out, make their development congruent with values of the organization, and bring changes that are permanent, (Nanjundeswaraswamy, & Swamy, 2014). She upholds the interest of her nurses, encourages growth by providing an incentive for nurses to further their education, allowed cross training into other nursing specialties.
How generational cohorts perceive this nursing leader and their style
Workplace generational diversity enables leaders to determine how to lead an organization that has different generational experiences. Each generation is a cohort with similar values, beliefs and attitude’s which affects the way in which organizational leaders direct their employees. There are four generational cohorts in the unites state workforce, which are the veterans born between 1922-1943, the baby boomers born between 1944- 1960, generation X born 1961-1980 and generation Y born between 1981-2001, (Al-Asfour, & Larry,2014). Generational differences cause misunderstanding amongst employees raise in a different generation, (Al-Asfour, & Larry,2014). The veteran generation is more loyal to their employer, they take their jobs seriously and put the organizational needs before their own needs. They prefer leaders who provide feedback. Baby boomers prefer leaders that are honest and respected. Majority of the nurses working for central staffing agency are the younger generations, generation X and Y. These generations can work in different hospitals, meeting new challenges each time and love to work. This generation love working for the central staffing agency because they make their own schedule, can balance work and family life. They like to take charge and to be involved in the decision process. The CNO leadership style allows for self-expression, promotes a working environment that promotes important social interactions with supportive colleagues. This generation loves her leadership style because it is employee centered and she collaborates with the employees to meet their needs.
How different generational cohorts would act as a follower of this leader
The composition of an organizational workforce comprises of workers of a different generation with varying beliefs, expectations and values. A leader must recognize the impact of each generation and work and ensure that all their characteristics are respected. Each generation share core values, work ethics and economic movement of its members, (Porter- O’Grady & Malloch, 2018, p.432). The veteran generation is more loyal and dependable, they believe in authority and put the organization, first. They always want to please authority and are a good team player, (Salahuddin, 2010). Thus, more likely to be a follower of the CNO leadership style. Generation X cohorts are independent, able to adapt to situations, creative and are not intimidated by authority. They are motivated to work by lack of rules. As a transformation leader, this cohorts must be involved in the decision-making process, question decisions and have no respect for authority. They are more likely to follow a leader who exemplified their core values and ambition. Generation Y cohorts believe in hard work in other to achieve their dreams, love honesty, optimistic and trust authority, (Salahuddin, 2010). they will be followers of the CNO leadership style. Baby boomers believe in a democratic work environment and like to express their values and contribution. Due to the CNO leadership style, they will be her follower.
Impact this leader has had or will have upon my own trajectory as a leader
The CNO is very competent, knowledgeable with nursing issues and trends and confident in whatever she does. She effectively communicated with her team and allow for self-expression. I will describe her as an effective leader. An effective leader creates an environment in which staff members are productive in their jobs, increase employee’s morale’s, which contributes to success. This will impact my leadership because I will be able to maintain and promote communication among team members. Communication promotes and improved interaction and relationship amongst team members within an organization. Effective communication encouraged teamwork and feedback which are characteristics needed to keep a group together. Her leadership style allows me to be a role model for others. An effective leader must be fair, dependable, accountable compassionate, confident, caring, reliable and consistent, (Feltner, Mitchell, Norris, & Wolfle,2008).
In conclusion, a quantum leader a must maintain a panoramic view of the world to recognize the direction their efforts should take. A leader that can see intersections, themes, and relationships ensure an organization undertakes activities that are needed to strive. A quantum leader must consider the relationship between the worker and the work, (Porter- O’Grady & Malloch,2018). A good leader should encourage employees to work with one another, engage employees in training that seek collaboration and increase communication, which will maximize productivity and creativity in the organization.
