Harriet Tubman saved over two-hundred slaves. She traveled hundreds of miles between southern and northern states to free slaves because of how morally unjust she believed it was. From 1849 to 1860, Tubman made nineteen trips between the states leading
captivated slaves to freedom. She faced many barriers of being a black woman and a runaway slave. Though her actions of taking risks and staying strong through her believes she was a bale to make the slave population go down. The cost of taking these risks were great but Harriet believed that freedom should be available to all people. Harriet Tubman broke many barriers by showing that women and people of color should all have an equal voice in the world.
No one knew when Harriet Tubman was born, scientists say it was between 1820 and 1825. Her mother was Harriet Green and Father was Ben Ross, together they had nine children 5 girls and 4 boys, one of children being Harriet Tubman. Three of Harriet’s sisters where sold to a new master.For the reason they were sold was because, Ben Ross’s Plantation owner name was Anothony Thomas Which he had fallen in love with another Plantation owner her name was Mary Pattison Brodess. Mary had been married before Joseph Brodess witch had bared a three child with her one of being Edward Brodess.

These people were Harriet’s mothers owners but soon after Joseph had died Anothony and Mary met and fell in love they later got married. Anthony had moved some slaves over the Mary’s farm,this was the reason harriet’s parents met. After a couple months of nothony and Mary’s marriage Mary then pass away leaving the farm to one of her sons Edward. Edward had to wait a couple of years to fully own a farm by the time he Could, Harriet’s parents had raised their children Miriah,Linah, Soph. Edward was old enough to fully enhariet the farm he then move some slaves over to his farm, witch encoulded Miruah, Linah, and Soph. They had stayed there at the plantation it was not clear if Harriet Tubman went back and rescued her sisters or she did not rescue them.
Harriet Tubman had an incident with one of the slaves which caused her to get hit on the head with a two pound weight. One slave went to the store without permission, and Harriet was there at the store with permission while she was heading back she found out what happened, that the slave was there without permission. Harriet’s slave owner asked her if she saw that man Harriet had then lied to the master, she told him she did not seen him. Later on, the master found out that she did know him and he then threw a two pound weight on her head. “This caused her to have seizures, very bad headaches, and narcoleptic episodes for the rest of her life.” (biography.com). This head injury was very bad and had almost took her life multiple times due to all seizures and headaches.
In 1844 she married a free black man named John Tubman, later in their marriage she told him that she wanted to go live up north Harriet told John her dream, He did not want to go with her. Harriet Tuman then threatened to leave by herself leaving John having to think about what to do. John got furious and told her if she leaves he will tell the master where she was going. After a couple of weeks Harriet ran away in the dead of night, when the sun rose people realized that she ran away, John then told the master what she had done.. There were posters hung on her face, and a ransom witch was not very big at that time, there were dogs sent after her to sniff her sent to see where she went.
Once Harriet Tubman made the journey to become free she waited a little bit of time before she went back for her family mainly her brothers.Harriet highly thought of what would happen if her brothers where sold. Harriet knew the high risk of getting caught, so to lower her chances of getting caught she went at night. In the shadows of the night she woke her brother and then snuck away with them into the free land, witched then raised the ransom for her life. While the master of the brothers awoke they realized what she had done. The master sent out twice as much dogs, putting a price on her brothers life. Harrrit and her brothers still went on with their lives but with caution.
Harriet Tubman knew this would not be the last time that she went back she knew she had to save the rest of her family and other people from the plantation. In 1851 she took the trip to free the rest of her family . Harriet took nineteen trips back, every time she went back to her wanted price doubled. Harriet Tubman’s brothers was offered a 300 dollar reward her brothers soon returned to the plantations due to the fact they wanted more money to live off of. Once Harriet worried what would happen to her brothers after they returned, she still continued taking trips and checking to see how her brothers where,while helping slaves escape. No one was able to catch her even though she took 19 journeys her wanted price went up to 40,000 dollars.
In 1862, Harriet Tubman Joined the civil war at first as a nurse then a spy. When Harriet was a nurse she had this patient that had the deadies dysentery. Harriet was not a lot to let this man die, so later that night she found this pond with herbs and she came across some lilies. She then boiled the lilies and came across a medicine to help his disease. It worked and this man lived because of her. Harriet also worked as a spy for the Union army she had a team made up of former slaves.Harrietshe had experience leading slaves through the Underground railroad. Harriet used the underground railroad to spy on the confederate soldiers. Harriet and her team are to ones who found out that the coonferduerts were going to gun raid. She worked and followed General David Hunter on many raids and helped him with many gun raids.
When Harriet Tubman was close to death they gave her the name, “Moses of the people.” The reason they thought the name would fit her was because, like Moses, she led many people to the free land where they could be free and lived as they wished. Moses led a whole village to this promised land where they could live free, he lead them through the Red Sea which no enemy followed them. This was similar to the Underground Railroad and how Harriet Tubman led them through a secret passage which the slave owners could not find.
“It was symbolically underground as the network’s clandestine activities were secret and illegal so they had to remain “underground” to help fugitive slaves stay out of sight. The term “railroad” was used because the railroad was an emerging system of transportation and its supporters used railroad code to communicate in secret language. Slaves used songs called spirituals to communicate with each other.” This suggested that the Underground Railroad was very secret and could not be found easily by slave owners or people hunting for runaway slaves.

In 1859, Harriet Tubman bought a house from Willam Seward in Auburn, NY. Harriet had bought this house and then cared for people that needed it.Multiple people used her help to get on their feet once they escaped.
Harriet Tubman’s role in the Underground Railroad helped many people escape a lot forms of treatery and helped people get a new free life. Thoughout her life her belifes stayed stong and her belifes heled her to be a spy in the war, and have the couarge to save more than 500 people form slavery. Her barrier was slavery and she worked hard and accumpished the way to free people and gain respect even though she was a black woman.
