Have you ever heard of Ibn Rushd? He did a lot of interesting things and he was very open-minded. He was a Muslim philosopher, and he studied medicine along with many more things.

Ibn Rush also is known as Averroes, was born on April 14 of 1126 in Cordoba, Spain and he died in 1198 in Marrakesh, North Africa. He studied Muslim medicine, science, philosophy, and law. Ibn also studied the Kalam theology of the Ashori School. There is a medical doctrine that is made from Galen that influenced a lot on his work and medicine studies. In the Muslim world, philosophy and medicine were really interesting so Averroes decided to study it. With all his studies he learned a lot and was able to help the society.

Averroes did various discoveries of medicine and philosophy. One of his discoveries in medicine was that the retina was part of the eye responsibility and that it had a big work. This discovery was very important because now we know what it is and how it works. It also helps doctors know how it functions to help different patients with problems. Finally turns out it also helps us to know more about our own body. Another discovery he did was that the nervous system has a lot of parts and not only one that controls it all. As you may know, our nervous system is very important and has numerous branches that have their function. Well, all of that was discovered by Ibn and his amazing skills.

With all the information he gathered he started to write books, commentaries, summaries and much more. He wrote a lot about religion, origins of the universe, metaphysics but his mane writes were based on medicine and philosophy. For example on medicine, he wrote a very famous book called “General Principles of Medicine” that was a medical treatment, just how he wrote a description of the structure from the heart to the brain.

He left several books on his own of health and sickness but sadly a lot of them were lost. On philosophy, he wrote commentaries on the Greek Philosophers Plato and Aristotle that helped people understand and helped to expand the work. Averroes commentaries after influenced in some religions like Jews and Christian. He also liked to write summaries and most were about a greek physician. All of Ibn important work and discoveries were used in the following centuries and they will continue in the future.

In my opinion, Averroes was very helpful in our society because he thought about other ideas and reflected on them. His studies helped many doctors and scientists even nowadays it helps us. He deserved a special biography because his discoveries are unique and very smart. Ibn brought a new philosophical vision to West Europe and after to all the world. I gotta say he was a great person and I appreciate his findings, same as all of his work.
