Having pharmacists as parents was an important factor in my life. Whenever I became sick or felt under the weather. I could always count on one of them to know exactly what to do to make me feel better. They knew exactly what medication to give me, what I should eat and drink, and whether it was serious enough that it needed medical attention, or minor enough that I just needed some rest. One of the main reasons I want to pursue medicine as a career is so that I can give my children the same comfort, and the same feeling of protection, my parents gave me. When my children aren’t feeling well. I want to be able to know exactly what to do to make them feel better as fast as possible.
Over the past two summers, I have volunteered at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown. MD. I shadowed doctors in the Emergency Department and had the opportunity to observe firsthand the daily joys and frustrations they experience. I found that I possess excellent interpersonal skills and I enjoy interacting with many types of people with different needs and backgrounds. The sense of accomplishment the doctors felt every time they could help a patient was one I want to feel every day. The Virginia Commonwealth Guaranteed Medical Admissions Program is a great option for me because it would allow me to stay dedicated to one school for eight years instead of havmg to reapply after four years of undergraduate school.
