Culture is tradition that people follow and use it to create their own identity. As, the world is progressing, more and more cultures are coming out and people are experiencing different cultures and embracing them. When people embrace and understand other cultures, it creates a diverse community where you can have noticed and celebrate together living in peace. Countries are becoming more and more multicultural accepting others and cultures are something that are very interesting, but people now choose to define it for you without having any knowledge about it.

Different communities are still very prejudice or biased of opening to other communities and understanding them. “That when we reject the single story, when we realize that there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise.” This quote justifies that to any story there is never any single story with a situation as we tend to accept a single point of view and accept one story as the whole. In today society, people accept anything that they favor without knowing the danger of single story. A single story creates different perspective and furthermore creates stereotypes that are not true. While, Adichie insisted that people should be more open to different perspectives of people as it allows to hear what others have to say.

While, mostly people assume a single side of story is enough and not being diverse to know other people’s perspectives, however Adichie believes that people should embrace two sides of stories and be open to diverse perspectives of people and when we do we are able to understand the other side of stuff. I agree with Adichie as be opening to different perspectives allows you to understand and if we don’t we misunderstand a lot of stuff. Understanding a culture is much deeper than you think. Communities or moreover people are not accepting cultures by being biased or prejudice.

As the worlds population is growing, so is diversity among communities and when they don’t, they are creating stereotypes from there own single opinion and perspective. Basically, people assume stuff based upon what they see and like making it harder for other communities. Adichie who came to USA to study had to face her own type of stereotyping problem, as she stated,” My roommate had a single story of Africa: a single story of catastrophe. In this single story, there was no possibility of Africans being similar to her in any way” (Adichie 3).

Now in this statement, it clearly shows that her American roommate already decided based on what she knew without having even properly either knowing Adichie or her culture. The American roommate created a stereotype of what she knew from her basis of knowledge without understanding and can lead to discrepancy in the society. It creates disinformation about others in the society and an opinion based on what you know. Basically, have a single story about ones culture can create so many differences bringing more difficulty into the society instead of peace.

Stereotyping is an issue which is mostly based upon a single perspective about something. A society all together should live together understanding each others culture and what positive benefits that culture can bring to them. Every culture is unique, it should be me embraced with a more open about things. Communities or individuals who are interested in a culture can try being more accepting things by talking to someone of that culture or by traveling to the country and learning historically. Embracing a culture and understanding it through different eyes can complexly change you and better the society.

As we grow up, our views are surrounded by the people who are around us. As the communities are increasing and are becoming diverse, younger generation are better at accepting other cultures and celebrate it with other people in the society. People should always view something with a broader mind about culture as different cultures can bring a positive change into them and the society. “That when we reject the single story, we realize that there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise.”(Adichie 9).

The author Adichie clearly states single story about anything will give a you full view of something. Basically, accepting other cultures and their differences and knowing that it can bring greater opportunity as a community to grow. At the end, even Adichie accepted and understood what American culture was like and her American roommate also learned and accepted how her culture was. Culture is meant to be embraced and the beauty of it will teach you many great things.
