I’ve had several experiences that could be identified as the most significant but when it comes to the advantages and disadvantages of each, homeschooling has the upper hand. It has been the experience that tones and highlights every aspect of my life. While other students in the traditional school setting have a life of two different areas, school and out of school, my life has been composed as a whole. The outcome has resulted in the privilege of me being able to take charge over my own education. Homeschooling gave me the liberty of being able to study at almost any location and any time that I pleased. This was a great influence that established study habits and gave me the availability of becoming engrossed in one particular subject without having to stop studying at the time of my next class. It also presented me with the liberty of engaging in a variety of activities that I feel extremely passionate about. One activity that I adored was volunteering at a local animal shelter. To me, I wouldn’t even consider it to be volunteer “work”. It always felt like a hobby because I enjoyed dedicating my time towards that.
Another upside is that I was able to make my own choices and govern my own decisions. While some of my choices have been challenging, I always learned from those decisions and completed my goals. In the way that I learned my classes, I’ve become a primarily self-taught and internally motivated student. Even though I have always had my Father and Mother guide me through life, helping me, providing me with everything that was needed, I am the person who taught myself the information and education that I know today, and I even think of myself to be an autodidact: one who is self-taught. Having learned how to learn, I feel that being an autodidact is something that I can be considered as for the rest of my life and not just until I go to college and graduate. Homeschooling has structured me in so many ways as a person and not just in my education. I give many thanks to homeschooling for the current opportunities that are before me and my perspective on everything, ranging from how I manage my time to my general outlook on life.
