Being able to give a great speech takes a lot of time and practice. It is not an easy thing to do but I believe that anyone can say a great speech with practice and organization. There are many good and bad things you can do to make your speech great orjust down right horrible. In the speeches given by Martin Luther King Jr, Anne Coulter and Sir Ken Robinson I will compare and contrast the good and bad qualities in each speech, In the first speech from Martin Luther King Jr. is about encouraging the fight for social injustice no matter the obstacle. I believe he did the best speech of these three, there was nothing negative I could say about his speech. He is a very strong and passionate speaker and in his speech you can see that what he is talking about affects him personally. He also has a lot of dramatic repetition which makes it easier for the point to get across to the audience. He doesn‘t even need a note card or anything because he knows his topic so well.
Also, Martin Luther King Jr. is a great extemporaneous speaker, doesn‘t seem memorized word for word. He uses a lot of symbolism and references to the bible to support what he is saying. He even pauses for dramatic affect and clapping when needed which adds to the intensity of his speech. Finally, he does an amazing job at how he says certain phrases and quotes to really get the audience to hear and see his passion for his topic. In the second speech by Ann Coulter, I thought it was unprofessional walking up on stage with “welcome to the Jungle” song playing in the background having nothing to do with the speech she was about to give. She also took time out of her speech to say she was out late last night and lost her voice, even more unprofessional. Her speech mainlyjust demeans Obarna and how he was a and president dealing with foreign affairs and things happening in the United States.
This speech was mainly just jokes and her opinion towards how Obama is handling things She didn’t cite her info like Sir Kin Robinson did in his speech or how MLK did in his, I believe she wasn’t very affective with getting her message across to her audience because all she said was her opinion and jokes about the presidency She never once stated a fact she got from an actual source other than herself. MLK in the other hand did a greatjob of connecting to his audience by his tone of voice and demeanori Although, she MLK and Sir Ken Robinson all did a greatjob of using hand gestures during their speeches and knowing their topic so well they rarely have to look down at their mates Anne also, was the only one who had her conclusion known by saying “but let‘s end on a happy note” so we knew she was almost finished. I don‘t believe she did as well of a job as MLK or Sir Ken Robinson.

Finally, in the third speech by Sir Ken Robinson he was talking about how schools are killing creativity He was trying to persuade and inform the audience that schools kill creativity He does a good job of saying “good morning” to the auditorium full of people which no other speaker did in their speeches except him, In his introduction he shows his three themes he is going to talk about which no one else did as well. Also, he does a good job of connecting with the audience and making them laugh. Really gets on a personal level with them about education and how it affects the future and how everyone has an interest in it. He also uses a lot of stories and scenarios to get the reader’s attention and show how kids are I think he does a great job of getting the listeners attention using all of these things, It was also interesting, I enjoyed listening to his the most and learning about how kids do not fear being wrong but once you‘re older its your biggest fear.
He has some really good thoughts about how we are all born creative but some of us are educated out of it and grow out of it. He also does a weird short raspy laugh thing when he says a joke that is kind of distracting, that is the only negative thing I could point out from his speech. I think he did a great job of connecting to the audience with stories and facts about kids in schools. He also does a good job of hand signals and citing his info. In conclusion, of the three speeches two of them were very good and one of them was just all over the place with opinions and jokes. I believe that Anne could of have had a much better speech if she would of cited her sources and maybe stated some facts in her speech. There were a lot of good things in all of these speeches like their one of voice, the knowledge behind it and finally their hand gestures during the speech. With all these good things there were very few bad things like opinions, citing and ongoing jokes, but if you fix these few bad things it could make monumental improvement to their speeches.
