John grew up in a savage whose ideas and thought process were unaccepted and frowned upon by the members of their village.John always new from a young age that he was different from the rest not only appearance wise; John from a young age grew a dedicated and will driven mindset from being pushed away from making friends and activities that other kids his age would be participating in.Huxley shows in this quote ‘ “ but i can read,” he said to himself, “and they won’t.They don’t even know what reading is.”It was fairly easy, if he thought hard enough about the reading, to pretend that he didn’t mind when they made fun of him.He asked Linda to give him the book again.The more the boys pointed and sang, the harder he read.’
John never really cared about making friends but rather achieving knowledge and this creates a characterization of curiosity and makes him fantasize about a world that will accept him and has opportunities as well as being able to learn new things. John casts himself out of his own society and chooses to pursue education and hopes, rather than work and cultural traditions. On the other hand since John grew up in this savage society he has morals and these said morals ; for example monogamous relationships, set into his brain as normal. In the society John creates a perfect utopia also referred to as the Brave New World but the London society looks down and is bewildered by the savages lifestyle , outcasting them just as the savages outcast the new societal members way of life.This characterized confliction is shown very clearly when the crush between Lenina and John takes off , a true clash between two different worlds.
“A gra-amme is be-etter…” she began.The savage pushed her away with such force that she staggered and fell. “Go,” he shouted, standing over her menacingly, “ get out of my sight or I’ll kill you.” He clenched his fists.’ (Huxley 194) The difference between the two brings out Jhons anger and hatred,it’s almost if he’s becoming everything he once hated.Johns importance heavily picks up in story when he starts disobeying, causing riots and outbursts, and looks down upon this new world as they do upon him. John is depicted as the cycle himself, he is the idea that two worlds must be separate and they cannot join together without hatred , jealousy, and betrayal. What he so wanted to leave behind turns out not to be a problem with the societies themselves but the problem lies within the members of its society.

He wants to save the people that, in his eyes are enslaved from raw and pure emotion and derived from the human experience.
‘“Don’t take that horrible stuff.Its poison, its poison.” “I say Mr.savage,” said the deputy Sub-Bursar, smiling propitiatingly. “ Would you mind letting me…” “poison to the soul as well as body.’’(Huxley 211) After experiencing his mother’s death Johns reactions and true feelings towards the people and town start to surface. His distaste for everyone being happy all the time is shown. The once romanticized life of being nothing but glad and feeling no pain turns to be more dark and twisted than anticipated.John knows and warns of these dangers and is written out to be psychotic compared to these other normal civilians when in reality he is the only sane one.
‘“Throw it all away, that horrible poison.”The words “Throw it all away” pierced the enfolding layers of incomprehension to the quick of the Deltas consciousness.An angry murmur went up from the crowd. “I come to bring you freedom,” said the Savage, turning back towards the twins. “ I come..”’(Huxley 211) John wants to restore the balance between good and bad in the people’s lives. He is a very complex character and openly expresses his thoughts and ideas whether they change or not throughout the book.From beginning to end the shift of seeing him as different and on different wavelengths changes to agreeing and rooting for him.
