Maximize Your Potential is full of insights and best practices that every creative professional should know. The point that really hit home for me is: “Success, has far less to do with figuring out exactly what the right next move is and far more to do with serendipity and randomness.” Comedian Milton Berle used to say, “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” If we want to live up to our full potential as creatives and just amazing humans, being proactive is a must for survival and success. Taking the reigns and being a creative entrepreneur shifts the responsibility of leadership back onto you. This means that we cannot expect our managers to baby us and shape us into what THEY want us to be. Thats no way to live passionately anyway . And we cannot count on signs and opportunity to guide us on our way. Potential is recognizing and perfecting your craft, taking bold, yet calculated risks and putting in the work every single day.

“Traditional career advice suggests a passive approach to finding your calling: Pick a job listing, apply, wait for a response. Get the job, perform your duties, wait for a promotion. Rinse, repeat, stagnate. But a wait-and-see attitude is hardly the path to greatness. With the access and resources of the twenty-first century at our fingertips, we can and should be active participants in shaping our future. We must seek out opportunities by strategizing with the resourcefulness and adaptability of a start-up entrepreneur, and we must draw opportunity to us by relentlessly developing our raw skills—excelling at our craft in a way that cannot go unnoticed.”

Greatness doesn’t come from waiting to see. Greatness comes from putting yourself out there IN FRONT of the opportunities. It never really comes knocking.

Do not live for your passion. Do not build your life or career around your passion. Instead use the mindset of finding a way to nurture your passion through your work. Do not follow your passion, cultivate it. Do not be stagnant, Always be moving and growing.

It’s easy to get stuck in a box of a specific job title—the only thing you want is to become a creative director,. But titles are not everything. And crush your potential Do not limit your goals by aiming to only obtain a specific job title. Our intelligence, our talents, and even our Your only competition is the former you. Do not compare yourself to other people. Build your rituals they are personal and should be spiritual as well.

People make opportunities flow, Networking is so important. If you want a career there is SOMEONE who has to hire you. If you want to start a business, Someone has to invest. We rely on relationships to propel us forward in everything we do. Contrary views are helpful and we learn and grow through them. Failures are self feedback, it is better to make those failures rubber and not cement so we can bounce back rather than lying on the floor of failure. Successful people use failure as a tool. Keep pushing ideas out, that is the foundation of Innovation. Success has more to do with timing than skill. The more often you try the more you will succeed.

It is impossible to predict the future. The best bet is to just be better than you were yesterday. Keep a positive mindset and always be striving to be a better you.
