In 1828, Andrew Jackson was more than ecstatic to be the seventeenth president of the United States. Coming from a long line of leadership positions, he knew he’d be capable of being the President. The journey of his campaign is what drew the people to vote.
Jackson was a people pleaser. He created political allies and made friends along the way to help the people convince that he was capable of running the U.S. Like most people. Andrew Jackson learned to control his temper when problems came his way and with that he was able to do his job very well. In 1824, the presidential election against John Quincy Adams has arrived. He made clear point on how he would fix the government system if he was elected. Failure rode along with him as he didn’t win. Only gaining the popular votes, Jackson lost the number of electoral college votes he needed. Being a team player, he accepted the loss and congratulated Adams on his win….only planning what he was going to do next election in his mind.
Adams always gave Jackson suspicions on how ‘corrupt’ he was being with Henry Clay by his side. Those suspicions gave him motivation and influence on how he would be able to win the next time around. Four years later, the election of 1828 had come into play. Jackson and his supporters immediately got to work. He organized a “grassroots party” to invite all his supporters around the nation to give him insight on what needed to be changed in the U.S. The public’s involvement gave him more of a chance on winning since he was showing that he cared about them. Being a people pleaser, Jackson was capable of obtaining the slogan the “common man” as Adams wasn’t. Since Adams never involved the public in any decisions that he made… they being to see his true colors.

What election doesn’t have some sort of drama to it? Just like the 2016 presidential campaign between Clinton and Trump, it was the same between Adams and Andrew Jackson. The people who supported John Adams would accuse him as a tyrant and using his military history as proof somehow. They even went as far as making statements about Jackson’s wife cheating on her ex-husband to be with Andrew.
But because Jackson spent so much time with the public, they were able to strike back and defend him by letting the Adams supporters know the programs that he wanted to create. Voters began to trust Jackson by taking a look his military accomplishments and leadership background. In the fall of 1828, Jackson won the election with the support of the overwhelmed public.
Andrew Jackson came along way on rising to the top. He worked hard for what he wanted teaching us a lesson to do the same. His hardwork and dedication to become president should be motivation to others on achieving what they want in life. Jackson, to me, will not only be a president but a motivator despite all the negative things he did while president.
