Lots of people in the world listen to music. Some people see music as a past time while others think of it more as having a purpose. Music is important to many people for many different reasons. I believe people use music as a coping strategy, a way to express themselves, and a way to celebrate different cultures.
Firstly, People use music as a coping strategy. In psychology people use music as a way to deflect from problems in their lives. For example if someone is suffering from depression they could listen to upbeat music. Music can also help people figure out how they are feeling. When people are listening to sad music they tend to have emotions such as sadness.
Secondly, Music is a way that people express themselves. Certain groups of people identify with different types of music. My friend Violet is emo, she listens to music classified as emo music. People who identify with a certain label often enjoy music that is related to that label. Alot of kids today enjoy rap music because they identify with the party scene that rap music talks about and with other kids who enjoy that music. People also express themselves in the way they listen to music. People who are trying to assert their dominance by listening to loud music as a way to gain attention from peers.
Thirdly, Different parts of the world listen to different kinds of music to express their culture. In different cultures, different holidays/ festivals are celebrated. Music is a very important part of many different holidays and festivals. In canada we start listening to christmas music on december 1st until december 25th. For octoberfest, lots of people start listening to polka music. In different cultures people use music to express their cultures in different ways.
In conclusion, music is very important to everyone in their own ways. Music can be used to help individuals cope, express themselves, and celebrate their cultural holidays. I believe that music is special to everyone in a different way.
