Dr. Towns gives us ten arguments that shows evidence on why the Bible is the Word of God. The argument that shows reliable evidence is, even though there are many different authors the nature and unity of the Bible and the message stays the same throughout. The different books of the Bible where written thousands of miles away from each other and even years apart and the books still contain the same unified nature.
The bible is one of the most unique books in the world because of the unity it has between authors. As said in the video presentation Understanding Biblical narrative, the story of scripture is creation, fall, redemption, and restoration (Gaston, 2018). With this when it comes to creation, fall, redemption and restoration we can see that God and his love was with us through all the events, even so today. During this essay, I will talk about how we see Gods love through creation and restoration, the ignorance the we have through the fall, God’s grace through redemption.
In John 1:3 is says, “All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made” (English Standard Version, John 1:3). When looking at creation we can see God’s love for us, as when creation was completed God said, “it was good”. Creation is where man got its start in life, God decided he wanted to take on humanity.
God gave us this responsibility of looking after all other creation, such as animals, plants, etc. By God giving us this responsibility we see his trust in us to all live a godly filled life. As it says in verse John 1:14, “And the Word become flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen his glory, glory of only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (English Standard Version, John 1:14).
God gave us someone who could teach us what it looked like to live in full truth and grace as God wanted. That someone is Jesus, as we still can learn from him today on the godly way to live. The Bible has not changed, but the world has, even then it still has a unified nature that as Christians we all need to follow. The implications of creation are that we are all made in the “image of God. As said by Biologos “The ‘image of God’ is a key concept in Christian theology, foundational to Christian thinking about human identity, human significance, bioethics, and other topics”” (BioLogos, 2018).
This leads me to my next point on how the fall of man created many implications on us as humans. Genesis 2:17 says “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die” (English Standard Version, Genesis 2:17). This verse was the start of the fall of man, as Adam and Eve created the concept of sin of humanity. There is a point in our lives we become so ignorant that we make these mistakes in our life that are sins. In Ephesians 4:18 it says, “They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, die to their hardness of the heart” (English Standard Version, Eph. 4:18).
The implications of this is that we lose our relationship with God for the short period of time when we decide to make that bad choice. We end up having to remake that connection with God and right our wrongs. We see this concept of sin as tough love almost, we can see God loves us but there are consequences to our actions. As Erickson said “… the law was not a means of justifying us, but a guide to make us aware of our sin and lead us to faith by bringing us to Christ” (Erickson, 2015).
My last point will talk about God’s grace and love he shows through restoration and redemption as humans. Psalm 3:23 says “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” (English Standard Version, Psalm 3:23).
In conclusion, we see that the Bible does have a unified nature when it comes to the creation, fall, restoration, and redemption of humanity. During this essay, I talked about how we see Gods love through creation and restoration, the ignorance the we have through the fall, God’s grace through redemption. As humanity started to become ignorant and hard hearted we lost our sight of God.
Through redemption and restoration, we see God’s grace and love appear for us again. God created these implications for us to learn from are mistakes and hopefully not have another fall. The unity that the Bible accomplishes is to show Christians the love and grace that God has for us. The Bible is such a unique book because we continue to see the same unified message of God written by many different human authors in different places of the world.
