For this project I kept a sleep journal for two weeks. My journal contained the hours of sleep I had during a two week span, also my overall mood when I woke up and during the day. My mood would change due to the hours of sleep I got the night before. The hours of sleep each night also depends on if its a red day or white day at school. On red days I don’t have a first period therefore I sleep in for an hour in a half.
The average hours of sleep I get at night ranges from 6-8 hours. On Sunday night I went to bed at 10:30 and woke up at 6:30. When it was time to wake up, I didn’t want to get up and get ready. I am not a morning person. I layed down for 10 minutes until I finally got up to get ready. My mood throughout the day was pretty good until 10th period, at the end of the day I became tired and was ready to go home. On Monday night I didn’t pass out until 11:30, I stayed up and watched Grey’s anatomy till I forced myself to fall asleep. It was a red day so I got to sleep till 8 am. I got 8.5 hours of sleep. I woke up in a good mood and didn’t have to lay in bed, I was ready for the day. I paid attention in class and got all of my work done. I went to all of my classes as well.
For the next 3 days, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I went to bed at 10. When I woke up I was in the best mood and got plenty of sleep. I wasn’t stressed about school and went to all of my classes. On thursday night I got irritated due to my parents getting in a fight. That night I didn’t go to bed until 12 and woke up at 6:30. When I woke up I was in the worst mood and was so tired. I only got 6 hours of sleep and just wanted to go back to sleep. When I got to school I didn’t want to talk to anyone and fell asleep in second period. I was annoyed and just wanted to go home.
After third period I went home and got lunch and took a nap. When I woke up I was in a better mood and later went to my best friends house and it made my mood way better. That friday I had a sleepover with my best friend. The weekend is the best to stay up all night because you can just sleep in the next day. That day we went to bed around 3:30 watching movies and just talking. We didn’t end up waking up until 11:30. I was still very tired but I had to work at 4 so I couldn’t lay in bed all day. Going to work I was in an irritated mood but had to change my mood for the coustumers. I got off at 10:30, I was very restless and just wanted to go to bed.
On saturday I went to bed right when I got home and slept in till 10 am on sunday. When I woke up I took a shower to help me wake up all the way. I got ready for lunch with my friends family. I was very energized and played with her little cousin. That night I wanted to go to bed early so I would be in a better mood in the morning. I went to bed at 10 and woke up at 8, I got a total of ten hours of sleep. Going to school I was in a happy mood and participated in my classes. Monday night I went to bed at 11, I kept waking up due to my cats playing and dropping things.
When I woke up it felt like I barely slept. I wasn’t in a good mood so I ate a good breakfast to get me in a better mood. The breakfast kind of helped. My brothers were being annoying and put me in a bad mood after school. That night I went to bed at 9, I listened to rain to help me sleep through the night. I woke up at 7:45 am because I had to take my sister to my grandma’s house for my mom. I was late to school so I was kinda mad at myself for not making it to school on time. I just stayed in the car and did my homework.
On wednesday I went to bed at 10:30 and woke up at 6:30, I woke up very tired and didn’t want to get up. I went to school in a good mood and was happy to see my friends and go to class. That night I went to bed at 9:30 because I had a test before and wanted to not be tired during it. I woke up the next day in a good mood and ready to take my math test. WE corrected it in class and I got a good score, which made me in a happy mood. On Friday morning I had a doctors appointment so I stayed up later than I usually do because I was able to sleep in on friday. I went to bed at 12:30 on Thursday and woke up at 9 the next morning. My doctor’s appointment went well and I was healthy. I went to school for one class period and then had a sleepover at my friends that night.
Over the weekend I spent the whole weekend with my best friend. We went to park city to stay at a hotel, we didn’t go to sleep that friday till 2 am and slept in. we did the same on saturday. When we woke up on sunday we were very tired from staying up all night. So we took a nap in the car.
To conclude my project, I ranged from 7-8 hours of sleep for the 2 weeks. When I wrote in my sleep jurnal I realized that the time I fall asleep determines my mood for the next day. I had a good mood most of the days but on the days that I stayed up late I was irritated.
