In life, sometimes we don’t know what careers we want to pursue for the rest of our lives. But with experience and education, we begin to learn what we like and want to do for a living. There are hundreds of different fields and millions of careers out there to choose from. For me, it was the passion I had to become a Radiologic Technologist. A Radiographic Technologist is a medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care. While in this field you have the advantage to work in hospitals, private clinics, and facilities. Even though each place is different you still could grow and advance in your career.

This assignment has taught me a lot and has given me an insight on my career choice as a Radiologic Technologist. The more I look further into this career, the more I learn about the growth in this field. Honestly, after this, I am convinced, that this is the best career choice for me. To help confirm my career choice as a Radiologic Technologist, I did a lot of research, beginning with the government site called the Bureau of Labor Statistics. From this website alone, I was able to learn about the Radiology field in general, the education needed, average wage and much more information that’s important about Radiologic Technologist.

After I did my research, I reached out to a friend of mine who knew a Radiologic Technologist. This interview with Jill (Radiologic Technologist) was a great opportunity to get the information I needed to assure I’m heading in the right direction. After I did my research and interviewed with an RT, there were some things I’ve learned that I was unaware of. For example, I was unaware of the variety of machines that are used to diagnose or image a human body. I am now aware of the different machines that are used for different parts of the bodies according to symptoms.

Being a successful Radiologic Technologist, one must be able to learn and stay updated on the variety of diagnostic imaging equipment used in the field. For example, performing MRIs, CT scans, PET scans, ultrasounds and other imaging studies are all machines used in this job daily. A radiologic technologist must learn how to use this technology properly and safely. As technology changes daily and machines are upgraded and substituted, the radiologist and radiologic technicians must know how to utilize new devices.

Given the opportunity to meet with an advisor to discuss a career plan is a great opportunity given to all college students. Many students are sometimes not fully aware of how to proceed and continue with their education. More than often there are one or two obstacles that may interfere with your path to completing your degree. Looking back over the past few years my experience is what influenced me to be here today. After I finished high school I knew there was more than just a high school diploma, but I did not think that I had enough potential or knowledge to succeed. I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity I had as a youth to pursue my dreams but now I’m here and I’m ready to start my future. This assignment has taught me a lot about myself. It has also reminded me that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.

Overall, Radiographic Technology was my career choice and after the interview with Jill, a Radiographic Technologist, it has only reassured me that this is the right career path for me. Although there is a negative aspect of getting emotionally involved I am confident that I will still enjoy this career serving patients. This career is full of advancement and excitement but as an RT I am willing to accept the different challenges that I may face. Being able to hear what a day at work is like, informs me that I will be able to enjoy this career.
