How Nurses Impact the Implementation And Adoption Of Health IT Systems In Your Organization

Nurses play an important role in the implementation and adoption of Health IT systems in healthcare organizations due to their roles in healthcare delivery. Nurses play a key role in the provision of healthcare services in healthcare facilities which means that they may influence the implementation and adoption of Health IT systems (Walsh, 2013).

With nurse leaders participating in the decision-making process which is aimed to improve healthcare delivery, they are able to make decisions related to the implementation of Health IT systems. This is based on the impact of these systems on the performance of nurses (Walsh, 2013). Nurses who are well trained and motivated to adopt Health IT in their functions have supported the implementation of these systems in their departments. Due to the nursing shortage experienced in my organization, nurses are willing to integrate Health IT systems in their functions to improve their performance as well as the achievement of healthcare goals (Walsh, 2013).

A Workflow Issue That Has Impacted You In Your Work Setting

One of the workflow issues that has impacted me in my work setting is poor collaboration between healthcare teams. Collaboration in the work setting has been indicated an important factor impacting the achievement of healthcare goals in diverse ways (Seaman & Erlen, 2015). This includes a shared decision-making process which leads to effective decisions as well as addressing any challenges in the work setting. This minimizes some of the errors that may be made in one department. Since the achievement of healthcare goals is a result of the performance of different departments, the lack of effective collaboration ultimately affects the performance of the organization (Seaman & Erlen, 2015).

Due to the nature of the healthcare service delivery where a patient passes through different departments for different services, poor coordination will also affect patient outcomes. In the implementation of Health IT systems, it is also important for the management to involve other healthcare workers in the decision-making process to enhance the success of this process (Seaman & Erlen, 2015).

The Impact of the Workflow Issue

The issue of poor collaboration had negatively impacted coordination and the implementation of Health IT systems in the healthcare facility as some healthcare workers were opposed to this process. This affected the achievement of the expected goals using these systems (Hebda, Hunter, & Czar, 2019).

However, in an effort to address this issue, a policy was developed to provide nurses with an opportunity to participate in the decision-making process. This policy was formulated in response to this issue since this prevented a successful implementation of Health IT systems which are aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery (Hebda, Hunter, & Czar, 2019). This policy allows healthcare workers to participate in the decision-making process where they are able to provide their views as most changes directly impact their performance in diverse ways. Implementing these changes without involving them in this process would discourage them as most of them felt not valued by the organization and policy makers (Hebda, Hunter, & Czar, 2019).
