Since the beginning of time, medical advice as well as hospital have been remembered to have important roles in our world. Without them the human race would be in a lot of trouble. They help our friends, families, and even ourselves monitor our health. With that in mind, many people do not realize that majority of the hospitals around the world are faced with challenges. Majority of the problems they face have to deal with keeping paperwork and charts organized. Although paperwork and charts sound like a small problem, in actuality without them hospitals would not be able to function properly. Due to the lack of funding, hospitals do not want to pay nurses or secretaries to do paperwork, instead they tac on that responsibility to management. Doing so has caused a major fallback in hospitals, seeing that no everyone has time to sit down and organize paperwork.
As a future nurse and a daughter of a director at Piedmont hospital, I hear about a lot of problems our local nurses have. This caused me to ask myself how I could help. Since my major is nursing, I thought of what better way to get my foot in the door than offering my help to get to know the medical field. In addition to the fact that I have passion to help other people. Now that I have decided where I wants to volunteer and why, it is now time to decide on a hospital to help at. Since my mother is a director at Piedmont, I had an extremely easy time contacting and setting up a time to volunteer at this specific hospital. I volunteered for a total of 12 hours. My next step was to decided specifically where I wanted to volunteer, I had to find a task that did not take up a lot of time since I work and go to school full time.
Since most hospitals are on a budget, they often prioritize important activities within its management in order to be able to fund their resources to the most critical functions. However, these small functions are a key role, that is were I offered to came in.Since my last job was at North Columbus Pharmacy, I already took a HIPPA Violation Course. Luckily, that allowed me to work with patient records.I later found out that my volunteer service would be best in the records keeping department. This way, I get to know the environment but not get involved with things that I am not certified in.

My main goal in this volunteering experience is is to leave a memory, yet positive mark as I am a student, so when I join the work force I will not have trouble finding a job. During this experience, I helped managers organize, as well as learning the daily life of a nurse.I learned that just because you are not doing rounds with the nurse does not mean you can not learn anything. I found that a lot of the paper work is the most crucial element, without it nothing can get done. This assignment allowed me to learn things I can later utilize in the nursing program as well as real life scenarios.
