My topic for final Research Paper Assignment is “Immigration and Unjust Assumptions”. This is very sensitive topic and we are going to heard lot about this in coming days as this is a year of presidential election and out of so many vote attracting issues immigrant and immigration policy is one of the hot topic to attract the one section of people to vote.

It is important to know immigration before we talk about the unjust assumptions immigration. To start first question that comes to our mind is, why did people want to leave their mother land and decide to locate to foreign country? There is so many factors and reason behind these decisions. What I as an immigrant and originally belong to country which is said to be one of the country were people once in life time try to move foreign country. I am talking about India; from different part of India people has this craze of immigrating to different part of world, for example place where I born I India called Daman and Diu people have a craze of immigrating to Britain.

As Daman and Diu once a Portuguese Colony and then it got independence from Portuguese rule after rest of the India got their Independence from the British colony and this is the time when all around the world all the regions are getting freedom from their respective colonies and colonization era got ended. Portuguese government still gives people who are born during this era a Portuguese citizenship after proving their eligibilities. As Portuguese is part of European nations this people automatically gets right to leave in Britain and reason behind moving to Britain and not Portugal is that Britain is more progressive and develop country then Portugal and so currency rate is much higher than Portugal.

So this is the one factor of Immigration difference in currency rate as per today’s value for 1 pound is around Rs.92.19 (Source: rate as per XE currency application as on date 03/01/2020). Second most immigration factor is better job and higher paying job and even currency conversation also take bigger part in this is by studying and moving or by going to higher studies to foreign countries and then settle there for better opportunity and better salary. These section of immigrate for example move to USA for higher studies better jobs, they come here on student visa or work visa popularly known as F1 visa and as they stay here for longer time they are eligible to apply for Legal Permanent Residency (Green Card) and later on they can apply for Naturalize Citizenships main purpose for this section to immigrate is for higher studies, better jobs and better opportunities in life.

Next sections of the people who moved to foreign country is are those whose relative are already settle abroad and they apply for their immigration to that nation. These sections of people are not always skilled worker or highly literate but they shift in foreign country and work them way upwards towards their progress and success. One factor that drives people to immigrate to foreign country is that in developing people think that working and settling to foreign country is a status issue. If a son of the family is settle in foreign country this family will feel they value has increase in their community. These are some major factor that attracts people from developing country to immigrate to foreign land.

As per UN 2015 Report most number of the people migrate to foreign land is USA and second number is Germany and followed by Russia, Total number immigrant born to foreign land migrate to USA is 19.8 % that is far ahead to other second and third country Germany and Russia as they have 4.9 and 4.8 respectively immigrant migrate to this country. Looking from other side, native born people living in the other country according to UN 2015 report is Mexico and India population (source: from Wikipedia the free encyclopedia). From the above data we can take USA as an example to discuss most popular destination for immigrant and people from India as the most native born people prefer to immigrate to foreign land. Taking USA and India as example we can filter the rest of the world to discuss the immigration and Unjust to immigrant and do not complicate this research paper.

USA as major destination for immigrant lets discuss History of Immigrant in USA, Immigrant laws, Immigrant Process and what does constitute say about the Immigrant. The Immigrant movement start in USA around 1600 with British and European people settled around the USA and then around in 1619 Africans is being imported as slaves and became settlers since then. Major waves of immigration come in 19th century during the colonial era as people see economic opportunity in this part of world (Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Immigrant law refer to rules established by federal government who determine who is allowed to get in the USA and they are one who determine who get the citizenship.

State Government cannot have any role or cannot determine in this Immigration law process. US citizen or Legal Permanent Resident can file the form I-130 to USCIS electronically or through traditionally old fashioned by mail this form and they can be categorized into different categories as per the I-130 form is filed and relation showed in it between the person who filed and for the person to whom it was filed for. What does constitution of says about the Immigration, under Section 1 Clause 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment says that All person born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to jurisdiction thereof, are citizenship of United States and of the State they reside (Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

We have talked about different aspect of immigration like main factors behind immigration and leaving their native land, immigration law, immigration process and what constitution says about the immigration. Now it’s time to talk about the other half of this research paper and that is unjust assumption about the immigration. I would like here to talk about more positive assumption and would try to unjust the negative assumptions.

I would like to talk about my experiences, as immigrant by myself and would also like to write about views of two of my friends who are from two different field and very successful in life and doing well here as immigrant to whom I have asked them some questions. I move to United States as immigrant in year 2012 after marring my United States Citizen wife in year 2008, It took us around 3 years to get done with all the procedures and formalities and had to work in the stores for around 2 years, I got the job in Government in year 2014 this short brief history is important as how my perception working at stores and working in comfort in Government office in different department changes.

I had hard life as working in Stores as merchandiser’s and during my hard time many time I thought I am not treated well because I am immigrant and my background but this was change as soon as get comfortable job at government and I thought process are much positive and I think I would be given a equal opportunity as any other of my colleague and at present when I think about all those event happen during work in stores I think very positive and do not feel and or think like what I use to think earlier.

So my point is that it’s the situation which makes you think that you are targeted because of immigrant or something like that. This think is the same with opponent when you are short of situation of confrontation or argumentation he will going to target your week points try to hurt you using those but I don’t think once he is cooled down he want mean what he has said in the heat of the moment. So saying that you are not treated well as an immigrant is unjust assumption. If you read the history of United States it is country of immigrant and Native American the only native of United States.

I have to use two outside resources that are not internet related and I have tried to find the books but did not success in that so I had asked two of my immigrant friend who are from different professions and used their information as my outside source of information.

My first friend is from medicine field. To introduce him he has studied his Bachelorette in Medicine from India and he came on student visa to do his Master’s in Medicine in year 2006 after completion his master’s in General Medicine, he has been offered a job here in United States and his student visa is converted to work visa and from there to Legal Permanent resident to Citizen now. My first question to him is why did you choose to do his master in United States rather than in India his reply was that technology and new procedure he is introduce here will take longer to time to reach to India and it may take him longer time to get hold of this technology and procedures.

My second question is financial wise it makes any difference to work in United States or in Indian to that he said if work in India as an MD, I would have earned ton of money there too and I don’t see there would be change in life style if someone is having highly professional job. I also asked him that did you ever has to faced abused behavior because of your immigrant back ground and he said he never felt living in country which is not his original native country he added that he is very well respected at work by his colleague and by his patients. This above example shows that it is unjust assumption that high profession job immigrant come here and take the job from the native I think we need this high profession job people to stay here and work here and provide their service to us its win-win situation for both and if you are not in disagreeable situation I don’t think people come to you and harm your feeling saying any racial things.

I asked few question to my second friend who is from Consultant in computer field. He moved in year 2000 as employee of software firm located in India during that millennium bug situation. His impressive work ethic was appreciated by his American company where he was doing his project for Indian consulting firm. He was offered the job this American company and pay that much higher than what he used to get as working for Indian Consulting firm he is now a United States Citizen. My first question was to him was why did he took the job offer from American company and does not that mean you are betraying with the firm who send you here.

His simple answer was that working for that firm were they paid them salary according to Indian standard and some increase to accommodate expense here and American firm understand his value and offered him industry standard fair pay and his work are regularly appreciated and his get regular raise in pay and promotions. His decision to become United States citizen is he gets more hands on to new technology and for better education to his children who are in schools. He says he has American friends and his children have American friends and they never face any awkward situation of abuses because of their racial and immigrant background. So this unjust assumption of immigrant taking job and local misbehaving with immigrant is unjust and not totally true and every part of world has some bed elements and for some you cannot blame the whole community.

According to me, we can judge the whole community with deeds of the small section of people and in today world no movement is restricted by boundaries and as mention in constitution every section of people has equal rights and opportunity. Immigrant has to follow the rules and process to come here and once they are here following all the rules and process of immigration, we has an lawful citizen of this great country has to treat them as one of us I don’t see any them treating any different and all such assumption are unjust.
