Although food sustainability will soon become an issue due to rapid population growth GMO crops must be banned due to adverse effects on the world. This is due to the fact that GMO crops affect fertility, pose health risks, and harm the environment.

GMO crops result in infertility issues. GMO crops contain BT. BT stands for Bacillus thuringiensis, a microbe that produces insecticidal endotoxin and has been used as a pesticide. Unfortunately, BT is proven to be a cause for widespread fertility and health issues. A study by the Journal of the American Medical Association, it was found that pesticides may have been a factor for 100 000 miscarriages in fertility clinics across North America. It is evident from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, pesticide concentrations consumed by women influence fertilization.

A group of females was split by the number of pesticides they consumed, scientists found that 25% of females who eat the most pesticides had a 26% lower opportunity of conceiving than females who consumed fewer pesticides. These negative findings prove GMO crops must be banned. Anti-GMO Jeffrey Smith believes GM, Smith argues “Nearly every independent animal feeding safety study on GM foods shows adverse or unexplained effects,” Smith writes. This quote from Smith novel is evident GM foods consumed have unexplained effects that include fertility issues. Therefore, GMO crops should be banned to prevent fertility issues.

Another prominent reason GMO crops should be banned is that it jeopardizes human health. GMO crops can cause an allergic reaction to something people before were not allergic to. According to the Harvest of a fear article, if an individual added a gene from a peanut into soybeans, a person who was only allergic to peanuts will now be allergic to soybeans because of cross contamination.

The chance that bacteria in our guts might pick up antibiotic-resistance genes discovered in many GM crops; another potential threat to human health. Food geneticists often add genes as’ markers’ to GM crops to tell them, which plants took on exotic genes. If, this transfer occurs, it could exacerbate bacteria that have been shown to resist antibiotics. A group of Scientists stated, “With genetic engineering, familiar foods could become metabolically dangerous or even toxic.”

The Need for Greater Regulation and Control of Genetic Engineering: A Statement by Scientists Concerned About Trends in the New Biotechnology. This adduce proves regular foods consumed daily such as corn, rice, and tomatoes have been proven to be toxic. Consumers use GMO crops every day since it is available to them at most supermarkets. The best solution is GMO foods being prohibited, in order to prevent health issues from occurring. GMO foods endanger the health of people who consume it daily. Moreover, this is another reason why GMO crop should be ostracized.

Lastly, GMO crops also negatively impact the environment. GMO crops are genetically engineered to be insect-resistant. Environmentalists are concerned that the features of GM crops may encourage farmers to use herbicides; subsequently increasing the use of hazardous toxins consumed by humans. GM crops also manufacture their own pesticides. Additionally the soil will trigger unforeseen environmental alterations. GMO crops contain toxins which adverse other organisms, such as monarch caterpillars and bees.

Wildlife may suffer from GM crops. Cornell University found that Monarch butterflies were being killed simply from the pollen of genetically modified corn. The insects will become’ superbugs’ resistant to GM crops. Viruses will have resistance traits from GM crops bearing genes from crop viruses gene-thieving viruses could develop into completely new strains that could infect a whole variety of earlier uninfected crops. Dr. Ricarda stated, “Unrelated multiple side effects of introduced genes cannot be predicted in advance and are not always visible or easily detected.” Dr. Ricarda Steinbrecher, Women’s Environmental Network, London, U.K. This quote explains GMO crops cause side effects on the environment that has been undiscovered. The environment is slowly being poisoned by the toxic substances contained in GMO crops.

Due to adverse effects on the globe, GMO crops must be prohibited. This is because GMO crops are affecting fertility, posing health hazards, and harming the environment. Also consuming GMO crops result in the woman having issues with conceiving. GMO crops contain Bacillus thuringiensis, which is a toxic subswtance that jeopardizes human health. GM crops can encourage the use of herbicides by farmers, consequently exposing dangerous toxins to humans. As more and more crops and containing GMOs find their way onto supermarket shelves. GMO crops should be banned because the adverse findings have been justified.

FAQ

FAQ

Is genetically modified food banned?
No, genetically modified food is not banned in all countries. Some countries have restrictions and regulations on the production and sale of genetically modified food, while others allow it to be grown and sold without any restrictions.
Should GMO be banned?
No, GMO should not be banned. GMO can be beneficial to crops, making them more resistant to pests and diseases.
What would happen if GMOs were banned?
If GMOs were banned, farmers would have to return to using traditional breeding methods to produce crops. This would likely lead to a decrease in crop yields, as GMOs have been bred to be more resilient and productive.
Why should GMO crops be banned?
The concept of conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to what is perceived to be normal.
