Who would’ve thought that creating and trying to discover that true meaning of life would cause so much trouble. Victor is finally ready to become a student at University of Ingolstadt in Germany but unfortunately his mother, Caroline, and Cousin, Elizabeth, become sick with scarlet fever. His mother dies but Elizabeth recovers and becomes the new caretaker of the family Victory still proceeds to university where he drowns himself in his studies of chemistry and when it’s almost time to return home to Geneva, he starts a new scientific experiment. Creating new life from death. Victor is so focused with his work that he lose his contact with the outside world and with his family as well. Based on what has happened so far I believe Victor becomes so ashamed with his creation, that he will try to destroy it but the people in his town find out and make him pay the price.
Considering the story takes place in the 18th century, this is on the idea philosophy and science had a crease in prominence. Around in this time more more people especially philosophers dreamed of a brighter age, that soon turn into reality with the French revolution. This was when the Enlightenment ideals were embraced and individualism was promoted. Victor has embraced these ideas since he was younger due to his child and parents. “I have described myself as always having been imbued with a fervent longing to penetrate the secrets of nature…(2.7)” The secret of scientific knowledge promotes Victor’s obsessive desire to go deeper with his research for the secret of life. The fact that one of his professors gave him a way to see scientific question from old traditions in encourages Victor to go forward with the scientific explorations by combining his respect the old with an interested in the new.
Despite Victor discovering the secret life and being astonished that he was the one to figure it out, he now has to live with the consequences. Victor soon realizes that his obsession with science and the idea of creating life, has left him with a monster that cannot be shown to the world and must remain a secret. “Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret tall as I dabbled among the inhollow damps of the grave or tortured the living animal to animate that lifeless Clay?(4.9)” It’s at this moment that he realize that that his actions have consequences and that the only way to make sure that no one knows what he created, is to keep it a secret. He must try to dispose of it before anybody finds out. If the secret of life gets exposed to the public eye, many people may try to use it for evil or will frown upon it. This isn’t something that can be taken lightly even in the scientific world.

However the secret of life could open more doors for doctors and people in the medical field, it can actually be quite dangerous if it lands in the wrong hands. It unfolds so many secrets and things that people don’t even know exist. It creates a recipe for disaster. Sure the secret of life has been a thing that scientists have been trying to discover for decades but maybe was it never meant to be discovered in the first place. The fact the Victor has discovered it is huge but he has a problem that he was hide in order to survive. In order to keep this from getting out to outside world, Victor must destroy his creation and run before people are able to find out about what happened.
No one would’ve ever thought that a crazy scientist would’ve been able to discover secret of life by creating a monster from dead body parts but I guess you can be proven wrong. In order for Victor to keep his monster hidden and for it remain a secret, he must destroy the evidence before anybody can find out. This is taken experience has taken such a toll on him, not only his mental state but his body as well. He is no longer able to function properly anymore or has a normal human being and in order for him to survive he has to fix his mistakes. Victor tries really hard to contain and hide his secret monster but ends up becoming too ashamed and tries to destroy it. Instead the monster will escape his grasp and the people of his town will find out about it, making Victor pay his fine. You should always be careful with the amount of knowledge and the power it with holds because you never know if it could be used for good or for evil. Expect the unexpected.
