As the video game industry continuously rises all throughout the world psychologists continue to seek out information regarding the side effects of the games. Although many continue to view video games as having negative impacts Erik Kain provides evidence and research that proves video games to be more acceptable for its users. With there being already more than 2.5 billion gamers in the world today one can assume that the biggest risk factor with video games is the user’s mental health.

When thinking in a perspective that such a mass majority of the human population plays video games already, many do not recognize the fact that millions of young men and women who are video game users are not a potential threat to themselves or others. Instead of criticizing video games for causing violent acts, shouldn’t easily accessible weapons, faulty background check systems, and even the media that people consume with their families be the leading factors to the many serious problems our country continues to face?

Klain claims that violence in video games can be just an aspect or just something to implicate for a more complex problem like gun regulations and mental health. The National Rifle Association Executive Vice President once even blamed video games during a press conference after the mass school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. Shouldn’t the real question be whether the suffering of war itself should be framed as a mental health issue, and if so, in whose terms? Realistically speaking, shouldn’t society be more concerned about the mental health of the United States Military since they are facing eye to eye with most of the of the controversy that takes place in certain video games?

It is to be proven that there can be many benefits to playing video games that are not recognizable to everyone. Videos games are proven to develop: hand-eye coordination, enhanced critical thinking capabilities, improved motor skills, better decision-making skills, magnified teamwork contribution, and heightened concentration. When looking into long-term effects if video games are regulated to younger children and played moderately then they can be truly beneficial to users.

As many games have age regulations on video games it is important for all parentals to regulate what their child may be playing, but that goes along with any type of technology that a child may use. The video game market is expected to be over worth 90 billion dollars in 2020 in just the United States alone. When thinking in a long term point of view video games are continuing produce and sell to in mass quantities.

It’s almost every week that video games such as Fortnite and PUB-G are releasing player content that keeps the players hooked and wanting to play more. As coding and technology innovates video games are continuing to improve for the consumer. Now there are virtual reality systems that not only make the player feel like they are inside the game, but it can also be an escapism of freedom and independence that many any not feel in their day to day lives. Having that kind of escape for many people from their stressful lives can have many positive impacts for its users.

I recognize the value of research on the effects of video games; however, I argue that a more neutralized balanced perspective is needed, one thats not only considers the possible negative effects but also the positive benefits of playing many games. Considering these potential benefits are important, because the nature of these games has changed dramatically over the past several years as the industry itself enhances. The controversy of video games will continue to rise as the industry continues to grow. Stereotypical beliefs will always form when it comes to gun violence and mental health issues.

Although many may consider video games to be a leading factor to this crisis our society is facing. I feel those who point fingers should look into the core of this world and what it was built upon. All the risk factors that video games may seem to cause just is a small part of a large problem of violence and cruelty that we as humans have to face in our lives.
