Thesis Statement

Exercise regularly is one of the most important in life if you want to have longer and healthier lives.

Introduction

How do you see yourself in 10 or 15 years from now on? As stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 39% of American adults are estimated to be obese. Today, I will tell you information about the importance of exercise and some helpful tips to become more active, with the hopes that you can assure that you won’t become part of that 39%.

First, I’d like to tell you that we all in need of exercise to have health benefits for the rest of our lives.

Body

Exercise is beneficial as it will keep you healthy and improve your self- esteem and confidence. Heart disease which is today’s number one leading cause of death in our society can be prevented and controlled by exercising. Based on the statistic that Johns Hopkins Medicine provided, roughly 84 million Americans have cardiovascular disease.

It is reported that cardiovascular disease count for almost 1 out of every three deaths in the U.S. Obesity is caused by being inactive. Also, it is the main cause of heart disease. The University of New Hampshire research finds that at least one-third of college students at the University of New Hampshire are obese or overweight.

Exercising will improve your mental activity as it will help you gain confidence and self-esteem. The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index proved that 70% of Americans who exercised every day are more confident in overall about their appearance than people who do not exercise.

When you exercise, our body itself will release endorphins by the pituitary gland which create a good mood in your brain. According to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, endorphins also help in reducing feelings of anxiety and depression.

Now I am sure you all agree that exercise is beneficial but are you actually exercising. Based on the survey I provided last week, out of 14 students, only 5 students said they exercise regularly even though all 14 students response they want to be healthier for the rest of their lives. So now I would like to tell you to start exercising now to have a healthy life throughout your life.

The first step of having a healthier life in the future is to incorporate exercise in your daily routines. For people who said they don’t have time to exercise in my survey

Exercising might be your last things to concern for college students as you are busy with classes, exams, jobs, internships, and other activities. However, I want to tell you exercise is also important. Colorado Technical University provides studies that show exercise can have cognitive benefits to students. They list 4 reasons why students should make time for exercise which includes heightened focus, evaluated mood, raise energy, and improve memory.

The Physical activity guidelines recommended at least 150 minutes aerobic activity per week which is roughly 20 minutes daily. This 20 minutes of your time will make your life healthier.

For people who said they just plain lazy to exercise in my survey Even 30 minutes of exercise, which include cycling, walking, running, taking the stairs, etc…., on your daily routine can be beneficial.

I recommended finding a workout buddy that can help motivate you to exercise. College provides lots of exercise options so take advantage of those and get some exercise rather than sitting at your dorm/apartment.

Again, I want to ask you “how do you see yourself in 10 or 15 years from now on?”

Conclusion

Now that you know exercising is the key to live longer and healthier lives, I encourage each one of you to become more active. And, next time you think you’re don’t have the time or too lazy to exercise, think about the 39% of obese Americans and know that your choice today will impact you 15 years from now.
