Has the person reading this been too lazy to read animal farm? Well here’s the story plain and simple! The theme in Animal Farm by George Orwell is a human’s place in society. The theme is revealed by the setting of the story being on a human platform, and with the humans taking the products of the animals and selling them (capitalism) then communism, then abuse of power because the leaders/pigs of the animals take control of the farm.
An example of a human’s place in society is shown in animal farm in chapter 1. In the beginning when the story starts off with a man named Mr. Jones and Manor Farm. Mr. Jones and his helper collect the animal’s product and sell them. In our world we relied on the products of animal’s and sell them for profit. We are here to live our life’s and produce an income to support a family or ourselves. “Mr., jones, of the Manor Farm.” (Orwell 3).
My next example is communism and it is shown by the society that the animals set up is the same as to the beginnings of the Russian Revolution. The ideas that everybody should share equality in wealth created by their collective labor is at the heart of Karl’s Marx ideology during the revolution. It is shown by The Seven Commandments: Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy, whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend, no animal shall wear clothes, no animal shall sleep in a bed, no animal shall drink alcohol, no animal shall kill any other animal and all animals are equal. (Orwell 1).
My final example is abuse of power and how it is shown in animal farm is the pigs use unknown (hidden language), make scare tactics, and create specific laws that help them, thereby enabling them to control other animals in the farm, to suit their greedy desires, and to perform actions outside of power. Because of the pigs hidden language, they use an implementation of scare tactics, and creation to manipulation the laws. They can get away with avoiding the laws and convincing other animals into believing in false stories and lies that are beneficial to the pigs and their key survival on the farm. “the mystery of where the milk went to was soon cleared up. It was mixed every day into the pigs’ mash.” (Orwell 35).
So, the topics that have been covered in this essay were, a human’s place in society, communism, and abuse of power. These topics show that George Orwell has a point in his story to prove that during the Russian revolution it was un fair and it was cruel.
