Social psychology is the scientific study of how people’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. In this definition, scientific refers to the empirical method of investigation.
As I was asked to take this test I thought to myself “I’ve never taken one of these before, I wonder what it is.” The hardest part about taking the test was answering the 50 questions honestly. If any questions are answered dishonestly then the results can be thrown off. Also, not fully understanding a question will have the same affect. After completing the test, I agreed with my results, this is the self-concept. Self-concept is a term referring to the whole sum of beliefs that people have about themselves. self-concept is made up of cognitive molecules called self-schemas – beliefs that people have about themselves that guide the processing of self-reliant information. For example, an athlete at a university would have multiple selves that would process different information pertinent to each self: the student would be one “self,” who would process information pertinent to a student, taking notes in class, completing a homework assignment, etc.); the athlete would be the “self” who processes information about things related to being an athlete (recognizing an incoming pass, aiming a shot, etc.
Most people in the class did, few didn’t. I scored 40% Extroversion. I wasn’t surprised by this, I’m a quiet person and keep to myself. It doesn’t seem like something I would be but I am. The only thing about the first part I don’t agree with is it says I’m unassertive, which I can be if I need to lead a group of people. I played sports my whole life and I was always the captain that would lead the team.
The second part of the test Orderliness is scored 60%, which is high according to the test results, arranged or disposed in a neat, tidy manner or in a regular sequence. Orderliness is associated with other qualities such as cleanliness and diligence and the desire for order and symmetry, and is generally considered to be a desirable quality. I can say I’m not always a clean freak. However, I get random busts of thoughts to just go and clean my room, my truck, and my other room.
I scored a 56% with emotional stability. “Emotional stability” refers to a person’s ability to remain calm or even keel when faced with pressure or stress. Someone who is emotionally unstable is more volatile, which means the person faces an increased risk of reacting with violent or harmful behaviors when provoked.
I found this graph extremely helpful. It shows how emotionally stable and unstable people can/will act. For example, someone who is emotionally unstable would be aggressive while someone who is stable would be cool and calm. I scored a 62% on Accommodation. This shows how I treat others. I feel as though this is my biggest strength and weakness. Some people are grateful for it others take advantage of it. I will go to lengths to help any friend no matter the size of the task, that’s just who I am, I’m a giver.
Finally, I scored a 50% on Inquisitiveness. This shows my intellectual level and how far outside of the box I can think. I think 50% is the right number because I’m not overly smart nor overly imaginative.
In conclusion, I believe this test, for the most part, is accurate in describing how I operate through daily life. Saying that I feel as though the test should have more test questions and less repetitive questions that are worded differently. Other than that I was very interested by my own results.
