Located on 302 N Dale Mabry Hwy Tampa, Yummy House South China Bistro is always my best restaurant to review. In 2018, the restaurant was honored to be included in the “List of Top 50 Restaurants in Tampa Bay in 2018.” by Laura Reiley. I love Yummy House South China Bistro for 3 things: customer services, delicious food, and affordable price.
The restaurant provides a unique experience when I first came, the mural painting creates a visual experience about Chinese dining. My first impression about the restaurant is about the services. When I opened the door, I was greeted with a happy and welcomed way. The employees from the manager to the front line and servers always display a positive attitude. The restaurant also has many different branches, which located at Orlando, Sarasota, Ocala, and Gainesville. Hours services will be 11am-2:45pm daily for dim sum lunch and 4:30pm -9pm for dinner.
The Yummy House South China Bistro’s menu features nine pages of delicious options for budget diners who enjoy Chinese food. For their appetizers, the signature salt and pepper mix is a must try. They have salt and pepper eggplant (crispy eggplant tossed with famous salt and pepper mix), salt and pepper tofu (crispy tofu tossed with famous salt and pepper mix), and salt and pepper calamari (crispy calamari tossed with our famous salt and pepper mix). To make the salt and pepper mix, they use fresh green onions, cilantro, roasted garlic and minced chili. Then put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix together well.
Just like any restaurants, Yummy House offers soup, clay pot, seafood, chicken, pork, beef, fired rice, and noodles. But what make Yummy House stand out from any restaurant in Tampa are Hong Kong Style Roasted Duck and Spicy XO Beef Short Ribs. The duck is best eaten with homemade cucumber, leeks, melon and other side ingredients. In addition to the sweet bean sauce, the restaurant also provides a homemade sauce made with honey and plum. The duck is luscious without being too oily. You have two choices when ordering the roasted duck.
You can get ½ of a duck for $14, or you can pay $24 for a whole duck. My suggestion for people who are new to the restaurant is ½ of a duck. If you enjoyed it, you can order a whole duck for the next visiting. In another hand, the special thing about Spicy XO Beef Short Rib is the sauce. XO sauce is one of the most expensive sauces in Hong Kong cuisine because it was made with dried scallops, shrimp, ham and chili with five different spices.
