Video games may be one of the biggest subcultures all over the world and it keeps rising sharply day by day. People could play those games at any times, at any places as long as they feel comfortable. Besides, participants could play alone, with their friends, or with someone new that could be found online. No matter how old players are, no matter the position in the real world, all players are equal in games. They are all the reasons why I love playing video games. Regarding to myself, I have a tradition that eight members follow it.
That is about playing video games together with my close friends at the weekends. We usually choose my house as our camp because it has a very big comfortable living room. At those times, we will divide into two teams and play games that have competitive modes. At the end of that day, loser team has to pay for dinner for whole group. In my opinion, this tradition is so cool and both of us totally love it.
I still remember the first time I took part in this tradition. It was one and a half year ago when I just moved to live in the U.S. Honestly, I was so stressful at first time living here for some reasons. I barely spoke English to communicate with everyone, I did not have a car for my transport, and I did not adapt American cultures. Luckily, one of my very first Vietnamese friends wanted to help me to come over this difficult time by asking me if I would like try playing video games with him and his friends at weekend. My answer was absolutely yes because I loved playing video games and there was no reason to deny an invitation like that.

Honestly, that was one of the best decisions in my life and I could not forget the feelings for very first time. Their hospitality was beyond my expectation. They kept me busy by introducing about themselves, showing me how to play their video games, and most importantly, bringing a comfortable air that I could feel I was already a part of them. At the end, they asked me if I could become a new member of this tradition. Needless to say, my answer was absolutely a yes. Then, they explained to me that there were four rules that I needed to follow.
First, each member had to buy snacks and beverages before coming in. Second, we were not allowed to use cheating programing during games’ time. Third, we were not allowed to have bad behaviors with others. Four, we would decide who would pay for our next dinner by playing competitive games. In more detail, we would divide into two small groups and loser group had to pay next dinner for all members. I think the last rule is the most interesting one. This is simply because we have to try our best to not lose games as well as it brings exciting feelings that I rarely have.
The tradition of playing games with my close friends at weekends gives me some benefits not only in short terms but also in long terms. In terms of short times, it brings me happy moments with my friends, which could help me to reduce stressful level and boost my working ability for the next week. Regarding to long times, it gives me true lasting friendships. Playing video games brings us together. Thus, we could understand deeply each other and we know that we have to try our best to help one of us when he has problem.
The most concern for this tradition right now is about time reschedule we spend together at weekends. Some members’ families complain that we play video games so much that almost forget families. Even worse, those families are afraid that this tradition could make us more aggressive by playing shooting, fighting, and violent video games. This is not true so far because we still handle everything well. We could know what is right and what is right. However, I think we should spend less time on this tradition. By doing that, we would have time for our families and we would do other things rather than video games.
Thanks to this project, now I could understand more about myself as well as the tradition of playing video games with my close friends at weekends so far. At the beginning of researching, I had some small troubles due to the fact that I did not understand the requirements. However, I think that I had handled them well. The best thing that I have discovered from this tradition would be appreciating true friendships. It is very difficult to find them, and it’s even more difficult to keep them lasting.
