I want to integrate the interpretation expressed in the video about “What Darwin Never Knew”. Charles Robert Darwin was born in February 12, 1809, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He was an English naturalist, biologist, and geologist. He got married in 1839 to Emma and had ten kids, three of whom died at early age. His theory of evolution and natural selection was not an idea with holes but one of the greatest theories in science. Darwin’s amazing theory gives explanations on how species adapt and change, but does it really work? Now, science is trying to answer the outstanding idea that he ever had.

When Darwin was a young boy, he was an ordinary kid that didn’t like school. His father, Robert Waring Darwin, was an English medical doctor who became worried about Darwin’s direction in life that had him packed and sent to Edinburgh, in Europe to become a doctor. After, witnessing an operation he was frightened by medical school and vowed to never return. Later, his father sent him to Cambridge to study clergy but again he didn’t succeed. Lastly, he started to mature as a student and found his direction in life by pursuing his childhood passion in nature

. I believe many students mature throughout their life by trying many different things until we find our passion and then we settle by doing what we love. I can relate to Darwin as a teenager in many ways because nobody is perfect and to get to where we want, we have to try many things to accomplish our needs. Although, it takes a few tries to move from one college to another to find your position in life, in the end you know that you accomplished what you love doing, at least for most of you.

Darwin published his famous book when he was 50 years old in 1859 called “ On the Origin of Species”. His famous work acknowledged a great deal of indication that evolution has taken place. On his journey, he found amazing fossils; skulls, jaws, and backbones that were giant mammals. But the most important of all was the Galapagos, a cluster of 13 islands that lies 600 miles off coast Ecuador. The islands are home to many unusual animals that you won’t find anywhere else on earth.

Again, I never knew that the Galapagos had a cluster of 13 islands so after watching the video I got a better understanding of these islands and how several species of finches were discovered. I thought it was fascinating how he discovered and developed his theory of natural selection. I enjoyed watching the video of how many animals were not afraid of the humans and that even to this day you can go visit and see many of the unusual animals there. I’m not a biologist or a geologist like Darwin but I love the outdoors and travel to see many different things that this world has.

Before watching the video, I had no idea who Darwin was so a lot of information was new to me, mainly that he was the scientist to come up with his incredible ideas about the theory of evolution and natural selection. I disagree about some of his theories, mainly on the part that he believed that humans actually descended from apes because I believe that humankind were created by God. I respect the work he put into to get to where he got but again sometimes doing too much leads to unwanted positions for instance, like himself where many accused him and attacked him of coming up with this theory.

Furthermore, I believe everyone has the right to say what they feel so if he believed that his theory is right than let it be. Moreover, many of his theories were discovered and now we understand the way life is and the way we think about our world. To this day, scientists use his work to better recognize the theory of evolution and natural selection so just because he didn’t invent anything his work is still used all over the world.

In conclusion, Darwin’s theories are used today and many scientists look up to his discoveries. Furthermore, we would not have any sensibility to biology without evolution so evolution is science. In general, I think by modern science evolution is accepted because it is just a theory. Science is still trying to better understand natural selection and the theory of evolution. I believe that new ideas are formed every day because every day we learn new things. I don’t think that the theory of evolution or natural selection will ever be understood .
