The loud screeching voice, the obnoxious tone and terrible repetitive lyrics. All the characteristics of the very famous and successful rapper known by the name of “lil b” one example of his music, is called “swag like Ohio”. Like the name of this song he repeatedly says the words “swag like Ohio”. In a obnoxious voice very similar to a house parrot knowing only few words repeating them over and over .Sounds like a joke right? No, in fact I know many people who find this music enjoyable.
Because of his popularity many of his followers try to mimic him for no apparent reason but the fact they admire him and look up to him. He is known mostly for the use of the word “swag”. When I say mostly I mean he uses it every other word because of that. I have come to the realization that the word swag is being abused and over used and in result irritating to my ears and I owe it all that rapper.
But not only does the actual word annoy me but the improper placement. And how improperly it is being used, thus making me perceive these followers as uneducated trend following adolescence. Because of this rapper “lil b” he uses the word swag in every single one of his songs and multiple times in effect causing his listeners to become just like him repeating every single word this man says and luckily he only knows one word and that is swag.

One reason why “swag” is a problem for me is the word is being over used, changing my perception to the users of this and forcing me to be irritated with the people I know. Cleary there is difference with saying the word and using it like you’re lil b, but the users of this word are different. They are using it in every single sentence and make no considerations to me or others. There are a handful of people who say this terrible word but just my luck, my roommate Sean also says that word which I find very annoying. Although I have no problem with this guy.
Merely the fact that he uses swag and uses it tauntingly Jam not the only one who finds this annoying my other roommate Max, who was sitting on the couch playing game cube when out of nowhere Sean says “swag me the fuck out” Max looks at him and punches Sean in the stomach for the random outburst “don’t ever say that shit again” says Max. To resort to physical violence for using a word is harsh, but to Max and I both of us underwent the constant taunting Sean had been yelling day in and day out. Something whether it was telling him to stop or forcing him to stop, something had to be done and that was the result.
Another affect it has on me is that it makes me perceive people who use the word as illiterate individuals. Why I think people who say this word are illiterate is, some over users of this word appear to only say that word as if swag was the only word in their vocabulary. For instance there are a couple of people in my old high school who were very much like this.
For example, around four to five of them dressed very similar and on some days not sure if it was planned or by coincidence, matches one another’s clothing to a point where three to five of them would all look identical. This group of friends also happened to say the word swag and they used it very much. They used it so much it was as if after every sentence they would finish it would be with the word but, with a very loud and deep tone of voice similar but not even close to the rapper lil b.
Sometimes it would be at random times like once we were in class sitting quietly until one of the kids said it out loud for all to hear, which they did and in response, some laughed and very many including me sat angrily ready to mangle the small child. I’m not sure if they were doing it to simple annoy me or in maybe the word was embedded in their brain forcing them to repeat the word like some brain washed zombie Or some other reason I do not know of, But with the lack of vocabulary and the over use of this word shows the true intelligence of the users.
The use of this word also annoys me because it is not used properly. Swag is originally meant to describe how you carry yourself and the presence you give an example would be “The man walks with a swag/swagger” but now it is being misused by kids using it as a way to describe oneself, clothing or something appealing here is an example a high school student once said “yo Chris that shot was swag” also someone once said this before “I look swaged out today” both examples make no sense what so and sound ridicules further annoying me even more.
In conclusion, I would very much enjoy for this word to cease from existence and never used ever again, but know that will never happen. A word cannot simple disappear like that but awareness of the over use of swag should be spread to others and maybe it would be used like it was originally used and not the way “lil b” uses it.
