In today’s world being different is the norm. There are now even certain bathrooms for ones who choose to be different. What about the people who are born different? People who have special needs or intellectual disabilities do not receive nearly enough options as they should. Something needs to be done about this. I would like to start an organization dedicated to helping them not only socialize but be educated and live lives like everyone else.

There are many solutions to these problems, but the main one is education. Still today people think that ‘retarded’, is the correct word to use when describing someone with special needs. It is not the politically correct term anymore. All it takes is for people to be educated on others who are slightly different to understand. Though there are higher education options for people with special needs, they are not given the option to have any loans given to help pay for it and that is a huge problem. I feel very strongly about this because I am directly affected because my brother has special needs.

The people with special needs should be given equal opportunities as the normal ones so that their lives can be shaped in the future. If these people are not taken cares of well, they would turn out to be a real burden in the respective communities in which they live. To help these people, it would require political good will as well as commitment by the leaders of special interest groups.

I have noticed that Hammond area in Southeastern has a very high number of people with disabilities and it is a high time that these people are taken into consideration socially and in terms of educational opportunities. For instance, on my brother’s story, he is unable to access the much needed financing for his education and this is really weighing down on the family. Educating people with disabilities is not very easy as their requirements are way too much so that they can be made comfortable. Although the cost of getting a pre-secondary and post-secondary education can always be too high for such people, both traditional as well as online education should be made accessible to all. In order to be able to meet such costs, most individuals have sought alternatives of financing, and these include grants, scholarships and loans. However, such options are not too many for people with disabilities. Specifically, those of them Hammond area who are joining college might find that these are numerous selective scholarship opportunities that they can try to apply but their chances of being accepted are quite minimal.

I think I have been affected directly by this problem in this area and would like to propose some solutions that may be of help to this disadvantages group within the community. My suggestion is that influential people within the region and even the local government should take this matter seriously and encourage the creations of more programs that specifically focus on helping the people with disabilities further their education. Such foundations should be well structured such that operations run smoothly and that people are chosen on merit.

To achieve this, these are several programs that have been established in the country that serve the purposes of helping people from poor backgrounds realize their educational dreams. These programs have been existing for several years and have helped many people to achieve their dreams. We can visit such organizations and learn more about their operations so that we can come back home and copy the same. In visiting them, it would not only be about learning or just seeking their advice but also asking for possible financing.

I would be happy to form a group of like-minded friends so that we can visit the local administrations and some influential businesspeople as well as company to get their views about the same. The aim would be creating a program that would be able to absorb a very large number of students with disabilities. The aim of meeting these influential people would be to seek their help in terms of offering ideas and funding that would be necessary in achieving this noble course.

This is not a very easy thing to achieve as the funding would be too much, however, determination and commitment can see it through. The first step in the larger project would just to have a pool of funds where such individuals would apply and be given the much needed loans. The first thing would be meeting the authorities and check on the viability of the project as well as getting clearance from them after meeting all the requirements. Then, the next step would be looking for the potential financers.

There are some NGOs within the region that would also be approached to offer financial assistance. In addition, by visiting the already existing organizations that deal in supporting people with disabilities, we should front the idea of partnering with them so that they can establish an annex of extension of their organization to the Hammond area. Both options of establishing an extension of an already existing organization and establishing a completely new one are good. However, establishing a new one would be the best if we manage to bring on board enough stakeholders, which would be the target.

In creating this program, we would ensure that bureaucracies are minimized as much as possible. Such bureaucracies are the ones that have made it very difficult for most of the students to be able to get the scholarships. The process of application would be made easier and every applicant is given equal consideration. When a person with disability applies for assistance, the only thing that would be done is just conducting their background check in order to ascertain that they are really in need and then they are given the help that they need for their education. Another aim of the program would be to make people understand that people with disabilities are also human beings that that they should be assisted in realizing their dreams. Normal people will also be invited and taught how to live with such people, whether at home, places of work or just any other places that they can meet. This is because it should not just be about education but also making them comfortable in wherever they live.

It is true that money does not grow on trees and if this was the case, then establishing an organization to help these people with disabilities in this region would just be easy like planting a money tree. In this current world where getting money is a very difficult task, starting such an organization would be quite a hard task and working with a reasonable budget would be key in its success as stated by David and Nazneen (David& Nazneen 24). However, the good thing is that it might appear as a very difficult thing to do but not impossible. After the identification of the needs of the organization and solutions to obtaining the funding, the project would change many lives. It would be good to understand what we would be up against before going into the challenge. Before filing for the tax exemption and 501(c) status, we would have to pay a fee which depends on the size of the budget. Since this is a new organization that will be just starting out, the payment should be reasonable. The target would be to start with a budget of $100,000, which would not attract an outrageous fee.

Gaining trust together with supporters is usually the most important thing is making sure that a project like this one is successful. Making the mistake of missing out on these two may bring the risk of making the process longer and not achieving the desired objectives. It is important to trust that the mission of the organization can help us in earning funds by connecting with the potential financers on a personal level. It is important to win their trust and that the money that they would contributing, to the project would be put to good use. Thus, it will be important to make them know that we understand our goal as this can make them be more willing to partner with us. With more financers and volunteers on our side, this process of establishing this organization will appear to be less of a problem. Therefore, bringing in more popular and influential businesspeople, organizations within the area and local politicians is essential for its success as said by Steffek and Hahn (Jens & Kristina 56). These are the people who have the money and their support will be very important and that is why we have considered them.

If this program is successful, it would then be important to consider constructing an institution within the region that these people with special needs can go to and learn without difficulties. There are some people with very serious disabilities and would not like to go far away from their homes to seek education. Establishing such an institution would help them because it would be easy to visit them by their relatives so as to check on their progress. In addition, establishing such institutions would help in reducing the costs of funding their education, as part of the money will be used to equip the facilities.
