Peter Mumo was one of many to be suffering from starvation. A small mud house in Kenya, he lived with a family of eight. Due to Malaria, most of their money went to lying for hospital bills. (Penner) The organization, the World Food Program, brought Pete Mumo and his family food and medicine they needed.

Unfortunately, Peter Mumo is not the only one that suffers from world hunger. It is organizations like the World Food Program that help those all over the world that are starving and need help. Feed My Starving Children is an organization that has helped feed many people over the years, this is a good way to help out by just donating money. People are starving every day all over the world and those that do not have to worry about going hungry take food and access to food for granted. These people do not realize what is happening not just in another country, but right here in America. (How I Escaped Poverty and Hunger)

In the United States, many families have to work more than one job to provide food for their families and even then, sometimes, that is not enough. In 2006, the government replaced “hunger” with the term “food insecure” to describe people that did not have enough food to eat (“The New Face of Hunger”). The number of people going hungry has grown dramatically in the United States, increasing to 48 million in 2012. These 48 million people in America now rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“The New Face of Hunger”). This program was organized by ordinary people that wanted to give their hearts to help out. Although when most hear about poverty and hunger, they think Third World Countries; one in six people in America face hunger. Around 49 million Americans struggle to put food on the table. The hunger in the U.S. is not a lack of food, but more of a poverty issue. In America, more than one in five children are at risk of hunger(“11 Facts About Hunger in the US.”). Over 20 million children receive free lunch each day at school, which could be there only time of the day they get to eat. One in seven of these kids is enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“11 Facts About Hunger in the US.”). 40% of the food in the U.S. is thrown out every day, which could be used to feed 25 million Americans.

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America and it suffers from starvation drastically. The natural disasters such as hurricanes and other weather disasters affect the crops that farmers are growing, making it hard for them to feed their families and sell products. These issues have a major impact on food security. The natives in Honduras do any work they can to gain income such as crafting and selling things to tourists.

Another country that suffers from starvation in Haiti, it is the poorest country in the Americas. An Emergency Food Security Assessment (EFSA) released in February 2016 found that 3.6 million Haitians were facing food insecurity. (2016 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics) Agriculture provides about 50% of the jobs in that country. The WFP has been helping Haiti since 1996, such as school meals, food assistance, nutrition interventions, and helping in disaster events.

Although starvation is worldwide, one major place in the world that suffers from starvation in Sudan. This country has many difficulties, the first is the many wars that occur, and due to the drought area, they are not able to grow crops. Sudan is also a very poor country; making the bills and expenses for food and water unbearable, making it too difficult to stay alive. Sudan is one of the top three places that suffer from starvation. Poverty is endemic with at least 80 percent of the population defined as income-poor and living on n equivalent of less than US$1 per day.(UNDP in South Sudan)

Children are the future of this world, yet they are the main victims when it comes to starvation. In 2011, 45% of children deaths came from starvation. (Latest News on Hunger in the US, Africa, Asia, Global) Malnutrition and unsanitary water cause disease such as measles and malaria. One of the main problems with world hunger is that most people do not have sufficient income to grow or access food.(Latest News on Hunger in the US, Africa, Asia, Global)

An organization that does a significant amount for starving people all over the world is Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). This organization has had an impact on many people all around the world. This organization is mainly supported by generous people all over the word that send donations or volunteers that help with packing the food that is sent to kids and families. Here in Conway, a restaurant called Tacos 4 life has a great program that buys a meal for a child that is starving around the world after you buy a meal.

No matter what country you are from, starvation plays a factor in the economy. And as the population grows, this problem is getting harder to solve. Many children and people suffering from starvation have been helped from organizations all over the world already, so the impact it would have the starving of everyone chipped in a little would be life-changing.
