The article I am going to analyze is “The Teaching Robotics in Secondary School” is written by a group of authors Sergey Filippov, Natalia Ten, Llya Shirokolobov, and Alexander Fradkov. The article informs the benefits of educating children at an early age about robotic knowledge. The authors, who belong to different science departments, work on the development of technology all over the world. They are especially focusing on the robotic field of study, for the next generation. The article explained how robotics education has gotten more attention from young ages. The audiences are parents who are interesting to have extra and new activities which can be rewarding for their future career also to have general and optimistic views of more robotic classes for young generations.

The purpose is to inform the audience how to teach robotics to a younger generation. In the introduction, the authors state their purpose strongly. The authors also mention that if children exposed engineering work at an early age, that experience will bring them motivations to engineering fields. Also, it grabs the parents’ attention who want a good career for their children, they may concern about letting their children join in the robotic course introduced in the Robotics program.

The authors use rhetorical apples such as ethos, logos, and pathos to achieve their purpose to get the audience’s attention to show the benefits of learning about robotics. Also, the authors’ message successfully passes on their clear development of ideas, especially in definitions, exemplification, and description. In the article, the development of ideas and organizations is the author’s success in conveying information to the audience. The articles are organized in topics and subtopics, and the author’s focus is on using font size and bullet points to give a great appearance for readers.

One of these articles’ rhetorical strategies or appeals is the Logos. An article examines to appeal to the logos when the information provided a piece of clear and specific information. The authors used logos successfully throughout their article; which requires high quantities of evidence. The author used logos supporting their ideas by including facts, and evidence for information that is difficult to understand on the computer field, especially to teach robotics for a young age. For example, when explaining about 3D modeling and Engineering design, the author comes with a strong description of the topic, “During their studies, pupils study the basic principles of geometry, designing in CAD systems like Autodesk, Inventor of Kompas 3D” (paragraph #16). With all the evidence in the events on the topic of robotics, the audience may get a clear understanding of the overall message of the article. Also, in the article, the author mentioned, “during the course of Engineering, Design children are taught how to prepare all necessary technical papers for their robots…” (paragraph #17). This helps parents to gain the needed knowledge and the importance of the topic to take the proper action.

The next appeal is ethos. The authors use the ethos to make audiences trust the topic being discussed and about what it is going to say. When the author, who are the professors at the university and science department in Russia, states the report is a result of their contribution, it shows the connection of the authors and the topic, which makes the audiences can trust the information the articles are for them. In the body paragraphs, the article mentions many famous educational institutions in Russia such as St, Petersburg State University, and more. And the authors mentioned the organizations connected with the government in addition, teaching robotics to children also receives support from the state. All these supported the success of the Robotic program to have younger age people to educate. So, parents can trust the program to send their children to study at these centers because it is watching by the government and many educational institutes are involving.

Pathos is used as a strategy to engage the reader’s emotion, by using images and clear examples. In the introduction, the article clearly states that teaching robotics in secondary schools will bring a good impact on children. It creates good feelings for parents having the information which one is good for their children’s future. Parents always want the best thing for their children, In addition, when the authors mention costs for these classes, they are completely free, makes parents are easily related and care about the information. Even though parents always want the best things for their children, knowing these classes are free of charge, additional news makes them excited or curious or wondering about it. But the author’s appeal is clear when they said,” there is no reason for all ages not to join this robotic community.” Throughout the article, the authors use words and phrases that spark the excitement to create awareness for the next generation to learn about robotics. For example, the authors state that the course “helps children make their dreams come true.” or while joining a specific course, also, they can be enjoyable to experience “very fun things” by taking the given opportunity to join and attending these activities.

As I mentioned before, the purpose is to inform the audiences who might be parents, educational institutions, and who have a concern about how children learn robotics at an early age, the authors have done proper research for providing benefits from educating computer field to secondary children. They are successful in using the strategies to pass the information and to spark awareness to their audience. Some of the strategies the authors are using description and exemplification to show the idea of introducing and teaching robotic courses more specific and clear to the readers in general. The article clearly explains a lot of theories and definitions in the robotics field. The style and the images get the audience’s attention and make it easy to follow the contents of what the authors trying to convey. Also, the pictures about the activities of the children or images of a different real robot make the article more reliable. The article gets my attention. The interesting information about learning robotics to middle school students and all the benefits engage me and inspires me to read the whole article. Also, since the authors focused to give a description and image for any new words makes more visual. Even though, this article talks about what is in Russia, I believe the authors are also successful even in other countries to promote the expansion of freer robot training programs for children in the future.
