Winston Churchill once stated, “Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” Though I wouldn’t label my drawbacks as ‘failures,’ preferably think of it as opportunities to adapt and learn.
Throughout the process of overcoming challenges, I have and will continue to achieve exceptional grades. I deserve this scholarship because I have the ambition and perseverance to achieve my goals, all the while conquering any circumstances I encounter.
One of my biggest inspirations is Malala Yousafzai. In 2012, Malala was shot while on her way back home from school. Being only 15 years old, Malala had already been advocating for girls’ right to education for several years. A year later, on her 16th birthday, Malala gave a speech at the UN that paved her path to becoming one of the most inspirational, influential and important young people alive today.
One of her qualities which have inspired me is courage. Malala continued to be resilient even in the face of adversity. Originating from a country such as Pakistan – like myself – which compromised her wellbeing, Malala did not stand down in silence.
The most valuable lesson I have learned is determination. Malala was determined to endorse education for girls and she achieved her ambitions through her hard work, passion and drive. On 10 October 2014, Malala was awarded the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.
Having received the prize at the age of just 17, Malala is the youngest Nobel laureate. This made me aspire to strive for my goals and keep working hard to achieve them. Receiving this scholarship allows me to gain recognition for my efforts and further me in my dream of becoming a psychologist.
Psychology focuses on an understanding of the human mind and behaviour, helping people cope with emotional issues or developing solutions for real-world problems. I find every aspect of psychology extremely intriguing. My passion is to help children overcome fears, trauma or distress.
In the future, I plan to major in psychology and learn all about how the human mind functions. My aim is to get accepted to Cornell University in New York and graduate with a degree in psychology. Studying in New York grants countless opportunities and prospects in my path to becoming a psychologist and becoming a renowned and trusted member of the psychology community.
Why should I receive this scholarship? I have the determination, courage, ambition and passion for becoming a clinical psychologist. From my education and knowledge, I can help children cope with anguish and distress, to help them achieve their own goals.
Granting this scholarship to me does not just invest in my education, but the future too, it leads to advancing and shaping countless lives. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to building a strong relationship with your organisation, GEMS.
