Hip Hop as both a musical genre and a culture was formed during the 1970s when block parties started to take an increase in New York City particularly among the youth of the African American society residing from the Bronx. Rap music is a form of relieving some stress off or getting something off your chest you know getting weight off a person’s back. The effect of rap music gets numerous harmful influences of our society and this generation now. Rap music has both positive and a negative influence on it, but it does set an example of how some grew up and overcame their objects in their way.

The effects of hip hop are still being felt to this day and proven to be harmful. Hip Hop gets the harmful influences at our society till this day because of the negative or vulgar tone or language they use. In this article it says, “Rap music is very influential and can have positive or negative effects, according to some experts” (Killion). Its influential because it tells many stories of how a rapper grew up from the struggle or poverty. Also beating the obstacles of the media and the people who don’t support it.

Hip-hop music gets long gotten the honor of representing the kind of music that constitutes aggression, intimate victimization, as well as feting neighborhood war and gangs, demand of drugs and alcohol. Despite all this, hip hop has generated a huge fan base around the world with a wide analytical of listeners, mostly among the youth. This article explains “Even if many Americans consider rapping and hip-hop culture detrimental to American culture at large, their complaints are largely lost upon a now nearly thirty-year-old culture which accepts rapping as a legitimate art form.”(Pentol). There are some aspects of rap music that can be constructed as negative, blanketing the entire form is unfair to the artists and to the people who enjoy the music.

Another fact is that rap music represents and supports substance and drug use also promotes violence and wealth they do not have. At a period, rap music caused conflict at some manners amongst our parental units and teens. This article explains, “There’s no denying that the lyrical content of hip hop is confronting, and in many instances, it includes the glorification of violence, substance use, and gender discrimination. But while many people struggle to look past the profanity, materialism, and high-risk messages often celebrated within mainstream rap music, hip hop culture at its core, is built on values of social justice, peace, respect, self-worth, community, and having fun.”(Crooke-Travis Jr,). Rap does have its differences in the society, but most people try to look past that and into the story rap music sets out for youth or the people who listens to hip-hop.

Some features of the mentioned themes are true an contribute to the negative stereotype, but there is a hidden side of rap that needs to be exposed. Rap has also helped people who were mentally struggling to get back into their mental state helped others from giving up. This one article says, “Some of the most successful rap hits relay messages formerly unheard of in the genre while the artists themselves come from a variety of backgrounds. Songs are about an artist’s success and more about his or her rise to it; even the most financially successful rappers wrote about violence, crime, and living in poverty.” (McNulty-Finn). The message goes out to the people who are going through poverty and modern-day discrimination it’s to help them know they are not alone, and they will get through it.

Many rappers rap about impoverishment and their struggles in the cities of America while growing up. Once they reach success they talk about overcoming obstacles and climbing to the topside. The message can give hope to many youths across America who live in similar circumstances. For example, when a rapper raps about his challenged childhood or about succeeding despite living with a drug-addicted parent, a teenager in a similar situation may believe that he, too, can get through his struggles. Through education and understanding, rap music has spurred social awareness in communities around the country. Rap music has served as a tool to speak out against negative aspects of life such as violence and guns. Many artists use their musical talents to promote peace and anti-violent acts. By communicating messages about violence and discrimination, and relating to youth people, it provides an opportunity for them to make positive changes in their own life.

There are several arguments from both positions as some people want to demonstrate the positive results of such kind of music and others state its negative effects. Among positive aspects that rap music has, entertainment could be named. Rap plays the role of combining people together and giving them something similar to share. Unfortunately, there is more evidence of the bad influence of rap. It is connected with the themes that are usually discussed in the lyrics. Rap music makes the focus on sex, violence, and drugs using an awful cruel and offensive language.
